Congratulations on your admits t1293097

I noticed DebashreeC was in a similar situation a few days ago and ended up choosing Kellogg. You can look at the detailed conversation at the following link

OP, I suggest you add a poll to your post as there might be some out there who'd rather pick an option than write a detailed response. It may not be as helpful, but it will give you some sense of what the "conventional wisdom" says.

If I were in your shoes, I'd
  • be more flexible and stay open to other MBB locations such as Chicago
  • pick between Kellogg and Ross

Tuck and Stern are well-reputed programs, but they are both also one of the costliest programs. If you're willing to pay the sticker price for your MBA, you might as well go to Kellogg since it's clearly the most prestigious (and the only M7) program amongst your options, and it also offers the strongest consulting recruiting opportunities with a very robust tech recruiting backup, as you mentioned.

If you want to reduce your debt but also have a decent shot at both MBB and tech recruiting, Ross is a no-brainer.

Good luck with your decision!

Hi All,

I'm trying to decide between a few business schools. My goal is MBB in the NJ or NYC office.

Kellogg:

(+) Strongest MBB placement of the bunch for sure, strong culture and community, M7 prestige, strong tech recruiting as a fallback

(-) Most people end up in Chicago or west coast post MBA

Tuck:

(+) Strongest MBB placement outside M7 and arguably just as good as any M7, love the culture and students I've connected with, a decent amount of people recruit for NYC, skiing, amazing alumni

(-) Rural area will take some getting used too

Stern:

(+) Virtually all alumni are in NYC/NJ, strong brand in NYC/Tri-State, currently live in NYC and wouldn't have to move

(-) MBB placement is weakest of the bunch, haven't had amazing interactions with students or alum, extremely expensive cost of living and tuition (cost is pretty important to me)

Ross:

(+) 80k scholarship (cost is pretty important to me), great student body, solid MBB placement, football, college town, strong tech recruiting as a fallback, amazing alumni

(-) Most MBB placements are for detroit/chicago

From your post, it appears that the debt is the only thing standing between you and Kellogg. I totally get the debt jitters! And 80k is definitely a huge deal. If the debt will prevent you from hitting a goal or set you back in any way then, I’d say choose Ross and work extremely hard to get a shot at the MBB offices you are looking for. If it’s just intimidation, then I believe 80k is definitely doable especially since you will spend it over a period of time. Kellogg also has NU Loan which provides competitive rates. Happy to chat about this!

On your schools, I agree with others that Stern and Tuck should be out of the picture. Kellogg will perhaps give you an exposure to many more opportunities than you possible even are aware of. Ross will be a more comfortable experience given that you’ll have lesser debt and still a good shot at MBB.

Either way you are all sorted and have amazing choices! It’s a good problem to have :) All the best!

Thank you! Great Datapoint about MBB recruiting.

Congratulations on such stellar admits!
I would recommend Kellogg. I had a similar bag of admits, was able to choose Kellogg and make it to a big-office MBB.
I think Kellogg gets super preferential treatment at MBB in terms of numbers across offices. The school doesn't send do many to NYC or NJ, but I can attest from first-hand experience that it's due to demand, not supply. I haven't seen the same response to Ross, though it's definitely very well regarded. I would choose Kellogg even with the 80k at Ross

If you've not decided yet, I suspect VariantGuy's analysis is worth taking another look at ... and, if that's not super definitive for you, maybe you can take a look at the two links in my signature block and one or both of those will help.

And, if you've decided, we'd all like to know what you picked. :)
