Total number of microwaves ovens sold in last 12 months = 42*12 = 504
Total number of microwaves ovens sold in last 10 months = 20*10 = 200
Total number of microwaves ovens sold in last 22 months = 504 + 200 => 704
Thus, average number of microwaves ovens sold in last 22 months = 704/22 => 32
Thus, correct answer must be (D) 32...

We are given that an appliance store sold an average (arithmetic mean) of 42 microwave ovens per month and that in the first 10 months of this year, the store has sold an average (arithmetic mean) of only 20 microwaves per month.
42 x 12 = 504 microwaves were sold over the course of last year.
10 x 20 = 200 microwaves were sold in the first 10 months of this year.
Thus, the average number of microwaves sold for the 22-month period was:
(504 + 200)/22 = 704/22 = 32
Answer: D
