Hi. Congratulations on your admits!
Nashville has been booming with jobs and people pouring in the last few years.
Owen it’s not a huge placement for tech. The top industries are consulting, finance, healthcare which actually is the biggest, and only then tech. About 10% of the grads go to West Coast.
For Marshall, being in proximity of the West Coast and local tech recruiters, tech is the biggest feeder. It doesn’t mean you have an automatic path or you won’t have to be fighting for a job but at least you’ll have a lot of other classmates will be in the same boat and there is strength in numbers despite of what some may think.
However, neither school is going to be particularly or inspiring for employers. They won’t recruit you just because you went to Owen or Marshall. However, there are some local strengths and USC spirit is strong in LA and Vanderbilt is a very strong name in Nashville. Both will be good conversation starters or door openers for some networking.
I feel both a pretty different and half quite a bit of differences in terms of the programs, industries in focus, area within the city they are located in, and a long-term spheres of influence. If I were looking to be in tack and probably will end up somewhere in the West Coast, I think Marshall makes sense. At the same time, if I wanted to end up in Texas Austin, you’re more likely to get there with Vanderbilt….
Also, if you have and that work of people you know that’s either in California or the south, I would lean towards that location since it will be easier to integrate and recruit and connect with people. It helps to have somebody locally who can help you rent an apartment or borrow a car or who knows.
