Hi. Congratulations on your admits. I would also probably recommend that you change your user name so your email is not exposed on the Internet.
Recruiting from either of these programs will be tricky and likely fall on your own shoulders. Carlson program is small enough and regional enough to provide local employment opportunities and my understanding is that the percentage of the international students is actually not that large. However if you’ve connected with somebody and you’re hearing something different, I would trust them because my information is probably a year or two old.
So... I don’t know that being in DC is a problem, though there are many positions that are not open to international students but that’s always the case anywhere. Which ever program you attend, you should expect to network and recruit off-campus. That means on your own. Having a STEM designation will be very handy in case it takes time to land your perfect job after graduation.
In general, I would perhaps lean slightly towards Carlson because it has its own regional influence and it’s all little niche in Minneapolis. At the same time I feel there’s a little difference in terms of recruiting for international students between these two schools so if there’s a meaningful financial difference, I would choose the lesser cost. That would minimize the risk in case you need to return to your home country or have an extended period of time what are you looking for a job. However, the NBA experience should prepare you well for the challenges related to job search and doing what sometimes seems impossible. I would suggest doing as much as you can ahead of time. Joining a Toastmasters club, getting really good at presentations, getting good at interviewing, and giving your resume a couple more revisions. I would not focus on studying accounting or marketing or finance but instead acquire the skills you’ll need to learn the job. Do some trendy reading and learn more about the American culture. If you can get some mastery of the American football, you impress a lot of people and will make a pretty unique impression, Perhaps enough to land a job
