Hi sarcophilus,

Thank you for your post and for sharing your profile. Great job with your GMAT! I think you have an interesting story that if told properly will lead to great success. I recommend you be genuine in your experiences and clear about your ambitions. Inform the AdCom why Wharton makes sense for you (aside from ranking) and why do you require an MBA now. Which other schools are you targeting? I hope you are submitting to R1 as PE slots fill quickly (but only if you submit a holistically strong application).

I am happy to continue the conversation with a free 30-minute consultation. If interested, please reach out (contact details in signature).

Good luck!

Yes I am applying R1.
Other schools are Yale, Stanford(as both seem to be well aligned for clean tech and sustainability), Booth (for their PE lab), and Ross. I may also apply to Columbia if I have the time before the October deadline.

Apologies if this thread is a bit stale but I was hoping for a profile review.

Age: 27, Asian American Male

Undergrad: 3.37 in accounting from a top 50

Experience: 1 year Big 4 Advisory, 3 years at a tech startup where I worked on its S-1 filing and IPO. Currently a program manager at FANG.

Test score: 330 GRE (167Q 163 V) took GRE for a masters in information systems program I was admitted to prior to relocating for current job

Extracurricular:
Multiple case competition wins on a national level in undergrad, competing again 200+ teams. Chosen by faculty to represent school in international competition. Have been invited back as a competition judge multiple times.

Founded a business fraternity in undergrad, served as President then as treasurer. Grew it from 15 to 80 members and oversaw $10k budget. Currently acting as an interview coach at local chapter and personally mentoring 2 students.

Certs: CISA, scored top 10%

Goals: Product Marketing. Tired of working support type roles and I love working with creative people

IMO, your S1 filing and IPO work will set you apart. how many guys working in startups get to do that?! Your growth at the startup seem to have been great. Your career growth (& experience) seems to be very good with a managerial position at your current A-list company.
I am not sure how your product management goals connect with the work experience so far, but you will have to come up with a logical goals story.

Hello and thanks for your post. I would be happy to review your profile.
Admissions committees will look at your profile holistically, analyzing your stats (GMAT/GPA), work experience & goals, and extracurriculars.
You have a strong profile, with your only weakness as you mentioned being your GPA. You should definitely address that in your Optional Essay, and the rest of your application will hopefully be strong and compelling, thus offsetting the lower GPA.
Your GMAT certainly will show schools that you have the academic capacity to succeed in the classroom. A 740 is excellent and slightly above average for even the top programs.
It is tough to gauge your work experience without a resume that details your accomplishments. But it looks like you have leadership experiences through managing people. You'll want to highlight those types of experiences, and any time you took initiative or led a project, or even mentored more junior analysts. Make sure your post-MBA goal is specific and realistic, and if you mention going into consulting or tech, that should be the case.
As for extracurriculars, it's not too late to get involved, and ideally take on a leadership role. Perhaps you can do something similar to what you did in the Finnish high schools.

I think your application has a lot of potential. Good luck!

Hi WHT0,

Thank you for sharing your profile. I really like your background as it relates to academics, extracurricular, and professional experiences. I believe you will bring an interesting perspective to the Wharton cohort. While you have excellent academics, I recommend you, at least, break the 700 score on your GMAT on 12/10. As distinctive as your profile is, you still want to showcase that you can handle the academic rigor to the adcom, especially since your GPA is evaluated on the rigor of the institution and area of study. Additionally, I recommend you take time, between now and R2 deadline, to really showcase who you are on personal and professional levels. You must also clearly outline where you intend to go with an MBA from Wharton and how the school will help you get there.

If you would like to continue the conversation, please click here to schedule a consultation.

Good luck!

Hi Guys, Please evaluate my profile

Indian Male, 29 years
UG: Bachelor of Fashion Technology (specialisation in Fashion & Apparel Production) - National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi (consistently ranks top in Asia among its Peer colleges)
GPA: 6.9/10, among the top 25% of the batch (4 as per mba.com conversion table)
PG: MA in HRM with CGPA 6.5/10 (Among top Universities for graduate studies in India)
GMAT: 720 (Q49, V39)

Additional Coursework:
- Business Analytics Specialisation (4courses + 1 capstone project), Wharton Online
- Business Stats with R, Duke University online
- Product Management Foundation - Darden University online

Work Experience: 4 years
Industry: Indian Conglomerate -Aditya Birla Group (1.5 years, worked in HR & Project Management as part of management rotation program across Fashion Retail and Manufacturing) + Entrepreneurship (2.5 years)
*My graduate rotation experience Aditya Birla was sort of internal consultancy experience as each rotation would start with a problem statement for a given sector/business unit, and involve problem diagnosis, creating and deploying solutions. While each rotation (or project) differed in complexity and area of concern, they all were strategic and of high impact in nature. Also got an opportunity to work on a global assignment in US.
*Entrepreneurship: I always had entrepreneurial bug, so when an opportunity to join the startup in space of fashion accessories came up (as Co-founder) 2 years ago, I immediately made the jump. For the last two years, I have dabbled across operations and marketing. Managed launch of 3 product categories, reworked marketing strategy to increase reach by 3.5X, took care of inventory planning and vendor management beside taking care of talent management. It has been a great learning curve until now, however, at times I found myself lacking in knowledge/expertise in taking things forward.

Extra-curricular Activities:
- Adventure Sports, have done multiple treks, hope to conquer the Himalayas someday.
- Huge comics nerd, and have been involved in comics strip design in college days
- Actively participated in sports, winning few medals at the university level.
- Was part of various clubs like the Social and Editorial club in leadership roles.

Community Service:
- Have been involved in multiple NGOs throughout my career in space of education. Presently involved (as an advisor) with a leading organization working to improve livelihood access to the young marginalised girls.

Post MBA Goals: Looking to get into strategy consultancy/Technology (Product) Firm/Consumer Tech side of Retail
Long-Term vision: I'm passionate about tech, and want to build a business at the intersection of fashion and technology.

Thanks in Advance

I'm targetting Haas, MIT and Chicago beside Wharton. Should I target other colleges as well? (to be on the safer side), thinking about giving GMAT, 740/750 seems possible.

Hi team,

Just desperate. I got low GPA and low GRE. Will they be lenient if I am from emerging markets like Myanmar, Cambodia and I have a CFA charter.

Do you think I can get in?

You’ll likely get some bonus points for CFA and being from an emerging market. If you have a low GPA however, you’ll definitely want a higher GRE to offset that.

Ultimately, depends on how good your story and overall package is.
