Hello @krishna198

The outline of your profile is quite decent. What matters from here is simply the GMAT score and what you choose to bring out in the essays. You can read here on what to highlight in your essays.
Needless to say target for a 730+ for the likes of Wharton.
The narrative on career goals looks weak and you may wish to tie in your long term goals to an MBA. Not seeing a need for an MBA to reach the path you have mentioned. Maybe reading here could help.
Commenting on other schools without an expected GMAT and clearer career goals will be pure speculation (which I'm sure you are not looking at).
Should you have further questions, let me know.

I’m a Chartered Accountant with close to 8 years’ experience in consumer goods industry. Working abroad in an MNC for last 2 years. Secured All India 17th Rank in CA examinations.
GMAT: Preparation in progress
Work experience and leadership:
Lead 2 to 3 critical projects during the last 3 years which gave company more than $1 Mn annual savings. Strong at building systems, processes and controls driving business results. The success of these project created a platform to move abroad in the same company.
Extra-Curricular:
- Member of a Rotaract club – provided several career coaching sessions to students in rural villages
- Thru innovative concept, created a program which makes employees come forward and donate part of their salary to support local schools and old age homes. This program continues even I left the company.
- Organized cultural events and gave several dance performances in events.
- Interested in farming and doing the same along with group of friends.
- Co-founder of an NGO – to protect the abandoned livestock
- Currently working on a project – to create an online platform which can reach rural India

Post MBA goals:
Short Term: So far experience is only with manufacturing set up where core objective/work culture revolves around – ‘operational excellence’. Would like to expose to ‘Customer centric’ companies in the immediate future.
In the long term- customer centric focused companies with operational excellence capability help me to create a route to be the CEO while continue to develop multiple NGO’s and making impact directly on the society. (Im not very clear/specific but this is the direction).

Request you to evaluate my profile for applying to Wharton. Also please advise if there is any other B School that I should look for with this profile.

Re: Wharton Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
thanks alot Mr.Sharma.

This is really helpful.

GMAT - Aiming to reach 740+. I surely realize that I have started late and targeting for R2 considering the time available between now and R2.

Goals - I have gone thru the article that you have shared and I see that I have more than 1 reason for pursuing MBA, however, Im struggling to make more clear. One year back I have started one year online executive education program from Stanford - LEAD- Corporate Innovation. Although it has been very helpful and great learning, the limitations are (a) to pursue this while executing multiple projects in office (b) limited reach to other working peers who also struggle to find time- which limits the learnings from various case studies. I realized the learnings would be much more beautiful with full time MBA course, (2) helps me to expand network and find like minded to support each other, (3) gets me access to companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, Netflix (next generation companies with customer centric focus compared to 'manufacturing setups which are less susceptible to present change).

I will work on this area.

Hi legendkillaz,

Thank you for your post and for sharing your profile. Your credentials seem on par, slightly above average, which is excellent. Can you break down your Quant and Verbal scores?

Since you have a competitive profile (quantitatively speaking), strategically use the remaining time, between now and application deadline, to develop a robust qualitative profile that speaks to your values and your ambitions. Be sure your objective is clear: Why do you need an MBA? Why Wharton? And Why Now? Having a clear and concise description of who you are, where are you going, and how can Wharton get you there, is vital to your application success.

I am happy to discuss your profile in further detail. If interested, please reach out to coordinate a free consultation (contact details in signature).

Good luck!

Hello gmateIndia

While the contours of your profile look decent on all the admission factors mentioned here
However, speculating the choice of schools requires one to understand your profile deeper especially with respect to career goals. Reading here here may hep you in your research.
For the likes of Wharton you may want to take your GMAT up by 20 points. But needless to say how you tie in all of the above with your career goals and the need of an MBA will be a deciding factor.
Should you have further questions, let me know.

Looking for a little clarification....

Trying to get a gauge by individuals familiar with the program on whether to apply or no. I particularly wish to understand who this Emba really caters to within which industry as well as is this program quant heavy? I have been invited to Booth’s EMBA interview but through a couple calls, was told that you can select how much wuant heavy classes you wish to take. The reason for my asking, as you will see below, is I am not a quant heavy investment manager so i am getting an idea of whether I should apply to Wharton or not. I also have submitted an app to the LBS/Columbia Global program and possibly Yale or Cornell. Below is a bit about me:

- 14 years in the finance industry in a few different areas(10 as Investment Manager & Principal).
- Currently manage $225 mil in AUM across 18 relationships.
- Highest Education: Masters in Finance at Notre Dame - 3.72 GPA
Executive Assessment - 150

Activities - Local grade school involvement with sports, academics as well as fund raising. Ethics workshop with private military high school. Learning French and marathon and ultra marathon endurance racer. Provide pro bono work to local marine and habitat group.

Education: Bachelors in Business Administration, GPA 3.48 2016
Awards: Academic Excellence Award (Given to 1 student each major across university, I received it for accounting major)
GMAT : 710

Work Experience:
- 2 yrs @ Deloitte in their technology consulting practice. Leadership roles on projects, and proposals. 1 promotion analyst to consultant. I've been a mentor for 5+ new staff and led some office volunteering events, and started a pro bono consulting project
- 2 months @ Walmart Labs/Ecommerce as a product manager. Plan on applying at 1.5 yr mark.
- Internship GoldMan Sachs in a middle office finance role (think credit risk, controllers, FP&A)

Extra- Curricular:
Undergrad - 2 yrs Non-Profit Consulting Club (1yr as a lead, 1 yr on the board), VP of Honors Business Society in inaugural yr, 1.5 yrs research assistant for org. behavior professor, 2 yrs D1 athlete (Walk-on, gained scholarship)
Postgrad - Local office leadership at work & started local non-profit consulting project in office and served as project manager.

Post-MBA goals:
Entrepreneurship, High Tech, VC, Impact focused consulting (ex. IDEO, Bridgespan, Bill & Melinda Gates)

Other Schools: Harvard, MIT

Thinking about using MLT to help with application process. Not currently doing much extracurricular mostly focusing on self growth ex. Muy Thai, Travel, Music, Practicing languages etc. Will this hurt me? I was hoping the 2 yrs undergrad and 2 yrs post grad and goals would be enough for impact/extra stuff.

Hello chakraaayan

Your GMAT, career progress, goals look solid. Lower GPA can be a problem at the likes of Wharton, but at some schools might get compensated with your GMAT score.
Seems a decent shot at Duke & Cornell if you can put together a strong application.
Make sure you tie in factors mentioned here with your career goals and a need of an MBA.

Hi christophahn,

Thank you for your post and for sharing your profile. You, indeed, have a strong and interesting profile. The weakness that I see is a GMAT that is lower than average for the target b-school, but I do not see it being a deterrent (what is your GMAT breakdown)? Depending on the round you are targeting, I would consider retaking GMAT if you can.

That said, I would dedicate a lot of your time developing and telling your story to the adCom. Be sure your story is authentic to your experiences, but also is mindful of the values of the institution. Additionally, clearly articulate why you require an MBA and why now.

Happy to continue the conversation with a free 30-minute consultation. If interested please reach out (contact detail in signature).

Good luck!

Hi sarcophilus,

Thank you for your post and for sharing your profile. Great job with your GMAT! I think you have an interesting story that if told properly will lead to great success. I recommend you be genuine in your experiences and clear about your ambitions. Inform the AdCom why Wharton makes sense for you (aside from ranking) and why do you require an MBA now. Which other schools are you targeting? I hope you are submitting to R1 as PE slots fill quickly (but only if you submit a holistically strong application).

Yes I am applying R1.
Other schools are Yale, Stanford(as both seem to be well aligned for clean tech and sustainability), Booth (for their PE lab), and Ross. I may also apply to Columbia if I have the time before the October deadline.
