- A question on the app. reads, "Other Graduate Applications." If it says something similar to, "Stanford, Wharton, HBS," did you properly justify in your application what unique characteristics make McCombs stand up to the others?
When they ask you this question always put one school much higher ranked (when applicable) and then other schools in the same bracket.
For instance if McCombs ask you it should be something like: Wharton (the much higher ranked) and then the likes to UCLA, Cornell, Rice, Notre Dame.
McCombs was my first choice but the lowest ranked school I applied to. It would have been absurd for me to tell implicitly they were the lowest ranked school I was applying to. They would have thought they were my safety school.
I am not sure if it was the best approach, but I completely ignored this question. I feel like that is a question that should be answered after you have been admitted. The application process is stressful enough without having to worry about the potential ramifications of your school list. Plus, I'd hope that if I am willing to churn out some essays, corral recommendations, and ultimately shell out $200 for an application, the school would at least review my application on the good faith that I am an interested applicant. If McCombs is rejecting applicants based on the fact that the adcom thinks the applicant will reject them down the road (unless it is completely obvious), then admissions playing a silly game of cat and mouse. That being said, for anyone writing an application to McCombs or any school that asks a similar question, I would flag this as a sign that you really need to tailor your essays for that school. "Generocide" will not pay dividends.
