Make sure you thorougly research the program and that your essays reflect your understanding of the program. If your essays talk about what you want to do and how you can make a difference to the class and community, make sure you have previous experience to support the same. Participate in the chats and the webinars they have online as well and try to connect with a few current students and/or alumni. I found the webinars and current students to be extremely helpful as they give you a feel of what the program is like and what particularly drew them to McCombs - it gives you a real sense of the school culture etc . I understand that you are applying for the Part time Program - I'm not sure if the questions and word limit is the same as it is for the full time application (the word limit was 250 words per essay), but I would suggest writing down eveyrthing you want to communicate first without looking at the word limit and then try shortening it from there. I had started to focus on the word limit at first till I realized that I wasn't happy with my essays. Focus on your top 3 reasons for picking this school and really get into detail as to why and how this would help. The rest of the points can be saved for the interview - atleast that's how I worked around my application. I believe there's still time for the deadline for the next round, so continue to research to see what you can add to your application. Good luck!

Anybody else monitoring this thread for scholarship info? Please post if you receive anything!

I got an email with a scholarship amount today. Any idea what the ranges are?

Posted from my mobile device

From McCombs' website: "Cash awards range from $2,000 to $10,000 and consist of both one and two-year awards. In addition, these awards often provide out-of-state tuition waivers, which save the student an additional $16,000 per year."

I received my scholarship offer today. So they appear to still be going through this process.

Be yourself, leave out platitudes. As much as you have already heard it, do not try to write what you think the adcom wants to hear. Don't tell them how smart you are, they can get that from your transcripts and GMAT. Instead talk about how you are different than every other candidate and will uniquely contribute. That's what I did and was accepted to the full-time program so it worked for me.

I was able to log into my online application; I did so today. If you are still facing an issue, I would suggest you reach out to the committee and resolve the issue.

Hey pals der,

Congratulations to all who got admits.

I am applying in R2. Any1 heard of ppl getting an admit with GMAT below 550?

I have more than 4.5 yrs work ex with 2yrs of international work ex. I have considerably good profile with great leadership positions handled during my work as well as during my undergrads. I have an experience in an uncommon field of Oil & Gas sector. I have topped university from india in my 3rd yr of engg and possess some gud acads.

My GMAT is 520 (V20, Q42 AWA 5). Low is verbal will only determine my admission? Need your opinion on whether i should attempt for an application.

Poets & Quants has McCoombs 80% GMAT range of 630-750. Not to damper on your bschool hopes, but you are definitely going to need to raise it to warrant any serious consideration - 520 puts you in the 37th percentile on the GMAT.

Looks like you are from India with an engineering background? Again sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I recently spoke with an admissions consultant that said Male, Indian engineers are one of the most overrepresented majority in bschools apps and admissions committees are looking for GMATs in the 760 range. Again that is one person's opinion, but my advice is go back to studying.

Anyone have any idea when the actual program starts? I couldn't seem to find it online and didn't receive my admission packet yet. Also, when's the earliest an international student can travel with the I-20? It's been about 9 years since I last had to worry about my I-20, so I don't really remember. Have all the international students submitted the certificate of financial record yet?

FROM Mccombs(Texas Austin) Admissions Blog: Advice From The A-Team
admissions section to find helpful tips and information from our admissions team.

Below are a few of the most popular admissions-related posts from these past few months.

Application Essays

Through the essays, you have the space to discuss your candidacy and tell your story without any outside interference. With so many other parts of the process determined by external factors, this is the one part of the application where you have ultimate control.

Read “Five Tips for Writing a Successful MBA Application Essay” for tips on getting the most out of your application essays.

Letters of Recommendation

You’ve already written essays and submitted a resume telling us about your business acumen, personality, and leadership and teamwork skills. Now it’s time for a third party to weigh in and offer a new perspective that will hopefully add depth and value to your application.

Read “Letters of Recommendation: How to Leverage the ‘Third’ Person” for advice on getting a good letter of recommendation.

Admissions Interviews

An MBA admissions interview is a very important part of your overall application and ultimately one of the first steps towards your post-MBA life. While this isn’t technically a job interview, you may do well to treat it like one.

Read “MBA Admissions Interview: How to Totally Crush It” to find out some helpful ways to make a positive impression during your interview.

Be sure to check back here on the Texas MBA Insider throughout the admissions process for more advice from our team.

Good luck on your application!

Can admitted students share your experiences of preparing this section? if I don't have any idea about it, is it better that I choose not to provide LinkedIn or Pinterest link? Thanks.

I shared my Linkedin profile because I was able to elaborate more under certain sections that I wasn't able to highlight on my resume. I personally believe it's better to take advantage of all the mediums UT makes available to the candidates, especially since they have a strict word limit with their essays. That being said, make sure that your Linkedin/Pinterest link adds value to your application and brings out/supports other aspects of your candidacy that you were not able to provide through your essays and resume. For Eg. if you talk about winning several awards, LinkedIn could be a place to list out the specifics. Good luck!
