I'd love a profile evaluation!

Nationality/Age- US, 27
Undergrad- BA in Political Science from a state school (honors program if that matters), 3.82/4 GPA, studied abroad in Stockholm for an academic year, Pi Sigma Alpha (honor society) secretary, department pre-law award senior year (should I even mention this? it's an honor I received but not really applicable to business school)

GMAT- 710 (Q47, V41, IR 7, AWA 6)

Work experience- 2 years in commercial insurance/employee benefits consulting (have life and health and property and casual insurance licenses, led open enrollment group meetings, redesigned company marketing materials and website, system admin for risk management software and HRIS software) 4 years in management for a restaurant group (marketing- 4 restaurants, oversaw launch of new restaurant during COVID, implemented online ordering, train new hires, handle day to day operations)

My #1 program is SSE (Stockholm School of Economics) Business Management program and my plan is to try and stay in Stockholm after graduation. I'm applying to programs at Stockholm University, Malmo University, and University of Gothenburg as backups. I have two references I am submitting with my SSE app (optional but hoping it helps my application).

Good evening,
I need your help with my profile evaluation. I want to do a MiM in Europe I’m considering Bocconi, ESCP, ESSEC, St. Gallen, HEC, and EmLyom.

I am from an underrepresented population, I’m 22 and , female from Latin America (El Salvador) I studied Economics and Business I attended to university in my country due to health problems because I have lupus, I have a GPA of 8.9/10 and even though my university (ESEN) is not well known internationally my professors are really great, graduated from top schools like Harvard, Stanford and NYU, who are going to do my recommendation letters. I went as an exchange student to Chile in Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile for 6 months. I have little work experience but I’ve been the head of a family business the past few months. It’s a store in a shopping mall and has been doing good, we have 10 workers, also I worked for two months for a company called SigmaQ as part of the Human Resources team, Fedecredito in a marketing investigation for 2 months, Ministry of Economics for 2 months as part of the economic intelligence team and for Termoencogibles for two months doing a Human Resources analysis. I can speak English, Spanish and French (I’m A2 but currently studying). For extracurriculars I was head of the Techo’s Human Resources team at my university. I was a volunteer in Hope (an association that helps children with cancer) and a member of Lupus El Salvador.

I already took the GMAT and I scored 650 (Q46, V34), in my mock tests I scored between 670-700 but in the real one I had a pacing problem.

I don’t know if I have chances with those universities with my profile and I want to know if I should retake the GMAT.
Thank you very much for your help and time.

Hello, could someone please evaluate my profile for B-Schools in Europe, MiM Program.

22-year old man from India.
I completed my Bachelor in Commerce in 2019 (51.33%) from Jodhpur University. I am not sure how much that is in GPA.
GMAT score 680 (V35,Q48).
I interned as an accountant in the hospitality industry for almost a year and half, during this period i also undertook miscellaneous duties such as sales representative, customer correspondence and staff management. My internship was overseas(Bali, Indonesia), so i hope that helps strengthen my profile.
Extracurricular activities: I was in my school football team. I have participated in beach cleanups and city marathons, and have engaged in martial arts training for the past two years.

Some of the schools i am targetting are EDHEC, CASS, Eada, Frankfurt and ESCP. Do i have a good chance if i apply to the said programmes. Also, are there any other schools which i could opt for? Thanks!

Hi priyamitra,

First and foremost, given the grades in your undergrad, which falls on the lower end, I would advise you to drop in a mail to confirm your eligibility at any of your target schools. Additionally, I would suggest you pose the right alibi which in your case would be to draw attention to your extracurricular activities and practical experiences. Moving on, you have scored a 680 in your GMAT test which is a pretty competitive score, however, if time permits, I would suggest you retake your GMAT exam and aim for at least a 700+ so as to showcase your academic prowess which will automatically overshadow your low GPA.

Coming to your work experience, you have a one and a half year of internship experience in the hospitality industry in Indonesia. Here you have an upper hand since you have international experience under your belt which sets you apart from the average Indian crowd. This will basically showcase your broadened perspective and your adaptability skills which is very much valued by these B-schools. Furthermore, you have played diverse roles during this work experience which again works in your favor. Having said that, you will be facing a lot of competition form applicants who have worked in the big four companies, which is why you need to enhance your profile further highlighting why you chose this company, the kind of projects you worked on, how you were able to add value to your company and what unique skills you’ve picked up along the journey.

Now talking about your extracurricular participation, you need to pay extra attention to this aspect of your profile in order to showcase a holistically developed profile. Moreover, all the endeavors from your undergrad and onwards is what is taken into consideration. So, you need to elaborate on the activities you participated in during your college years such as highlighting the kind of events you organized, duties you performed, and your major takeaways from the same. Additionally, you can also take up certain online courses or certifications related to the niche you would want to build your career in to further enhance your profile and proactive attitude. All in all, varied skills can contribute towards you being a great future leader which would automatically impress the adcoms.

When it comes to the schools that you are targeting, I would suggest you aim for schools based in Europe as they are comparatively less stringent with their GPA requirements as opposed to the UK based schools. Henceforth, I would recommend you to not target CASS which is a UK based school and instead you can look at ESCP and FRANKFURT which come under the dream category (where your chances of acceptance is 40-50%) while EDHEC and EADA come under the competitive category (where your chances of acceptance is 60-70%). However, do keep in mind that you will need to drop in a mail to these B-schools to confirm your eligibility for the same.

To widen the options under your radar, you can take up our Free Profile Evaluation through which you can get a personalized list of schools as per your preferences and also gain clarity of where you stand amongst your competition.

The link is given below:

https://www.mim-essay.com/profile-evaluation

Here, you can also Book a Free consulting session with one of our consultants who through their expertise can gauge the competitiveness of your profile and help you plan a winning strategy to bag an admit from your target schools.

Hope this helped!

Prashilsurani
Location - India
10th grade - 93%
12th grade - 76%
GPA - 3.1/4(Two semesters still left)

Education - Business administration

GMAT- Yet to give. but expected around 700.

Extra-Curricular/hobbies- HOD for literary arts in college Rotaract club, co-authored a magazine for college, Few social helpful projects for blind and elderlies. Founded a book club of my own.
Represented school for football as a captain in school. Poetry writing and Piano.

Experience -Internships in digital marketing for a month in a startup and another month in an NGO. Finally some family business experience.

Target - HEC

Will this be enough? I really want to get into HEC.

Hey Prashilsurani,

You have a pretty decent profile.

To begin with, your GPA of 3.1/ 4 makes the cut and would allow you to target most of the top b-schools. However, it falls a bit on the lower end as compared to the competition you will face. So to remedy this, you can draw attention to the projects, assignments undertaken, and also the experience gained through your internships. Also, you have not mentioned the college brand here. HEC Paris majorly lays emphasis on the top 10 schools of each country so if you are in one of those, it will play to your advantage.

In addition to this, another significant aspect that schools focus on is extracurricular activities as they are looking for a holistically developed profile. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavors taken up at any clubs, associations, sports, fest, or events you managed or participated in during your under graduation. Volunteering initiatives, certifications, or internships undertaken during the course of your study would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. Above you have mentioned that you have been the HOD for literary arts in the college Rotaract Club, this portrays your strong leadership abilities.

Alongside, you have also co-authored a magazine for college and founded a book club, these things showcase that you are willing to take on challenges and go the extra mile to create impacts. Moreover, the social activities that you have done to help the blind and elderly people are again very impressive as it vouches for the socially responsible traits in your personality. While you have impressive feats in your profile, you ought to emphasize on what events you have led, what were your roles and responsibilities and what were your major takeaways to stand out from the pool of applicants.

Coming to the professional front, you have a fair amount of practical experiences, however, you need to be mindful of your competitors who will possess experiences from the Big-4 firms. So in order to stand at par with your competitors, highlight why you chose these internships, what projects you’ve taken up so far, how you have gone beyond your designated role, and lastly any kind of impact created. Thus, you should focus on the quality of your work and how you went above and beyond and bloomed in your role.

To further give your profile a boost, you can showcase your pro activeness on the end of upskilling yourself and chasing growth by taking up a few courses or certifications relevant to your field of interest.

Coming to your school choice, HEC Paris comes under the dream category, where you have a stringent acceptance rate of 40-50%. In order to boost your chances of acceptance, you would need to complement your profile with a strong application highlighting the kind of work experiences you have had and how you are different from others.

Speaking of GMAT, anything above 690+ makes you eligible for the top B-schools in the world. However, for HEC Paris, you would require a minimum of 710. The reason being, this school stands at the second position in the world and is highly selective in its approach.

Another aspect that I would like to make you aware of is that when you are applying to schools abroad, it is always recommended going for a mix of the dream and competitive schools to hedge your bets wisely and ensure a fruitful outcome. To help you understand better, I’ve suggested a few schools that you could be targeting according to the different categories.

DREAM: LBS, HEC, LSE, INSEAD
COMPETITIVE: WHU, Babson, Warwick
SAFE: Grenoble, EDHEC, Skema

Lastly, to re-emphasize, while you have a good profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to complement your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses, and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!

On this note, you can check our flagship service- All-In-One Solution to see how we could assist you in preparing a polished application and highlighting your strengths so that you can boost your chances of acceptance by a minimum of 3x at these schools!

Bonjour ;

Hi Estrella0798,

Thanks for reaching out.

I don't think that your GMAT score should really be a problem. We have had clients with similar scores to your receive admission to TOP TOP business schools (we're talking Harvard and MIT with mid-600s and lower). So I don't think that your GMAT score should be a problem as long as your application is top notch.

I wouldn't be too worried about your university not being too well known. It shouldn't matter too much, plus your GPA is great.

I highly suggest you reach out to us for free consultation or you can also checkout our free MBA chances estimation calculator.

Good luck,
Georgia

Hi Katsiano,

Thanks for reaching out.

I think that your chances of acceptance are pretty high, especially with such great GMAT and GPA scores.

I wouldn't hesitate to include your honors and accomplishments. Although they may not be business related, they're still a great way of showing your personality, what you're capable of and help you to stick out from the crowd. (We once had an applicant to a top business school who worked at McDonalds to help finance his undergrad degree. He didn't mention it to his interviewer at first, but when he did, they were so impressed with him dedication to studies and ability to balance both work and his studies!)

You can also checkout our free MBA chances estimation calculator. It's a great tool and can definitely help you get a clearer understanding of where you stand.

Good luck,

Hey katsiano!

Beginning the evaluation with your academics, you undoubtedly have a strong academic background. Your GPA of 3.84/4 not only displays your academic prowess but also adds the dimension of diversity to the cohort as you are from the political science background. You also have studied in Stockholm for a year which showcases your international experience, a trait held in high regards by the admissions committee as it displays your global mindset and broadened perspective.

Your GMAT score of 710 further authenticates your academic skills and calibre by showcasing your aptitude and worthiness for the program.

Coming on to your work experience, you have around 6 years of work experience in your profile which makes you ineligible for applying to the MiM program as it is an early career degree aimed at people with 0-2 years of work experience. Therefore, I’d suggest you divert your attention towards a specialized master or an MBA program. You have both consulting and management experience in your profile which makes your profile quite competitive for both of the programs.

Further, on the note of extracurriculars, you must be cognizant of the fact that schools seek applicants having a holistic profile. Hence, accounting for the same, your experience as the fraternity secretary showcases leadership and project management skills. However, when applying to B-schools, it becomes imperative that you showcase a well-rounded profile in all aspects. Therefore, you should take up some certifications in the field you wish to be building your career in such as Six Sigma or FSFM and also showcase an active community involvement, something you can achieve by undertaking volunteering activities in the local NGOs or Non-profit organizations.

Given your school choices, they fall under the competitive category which means ideally you stand a 50-60% chance of getting into the program.

Lastly, no matter what schools or programs you are targeting, you need to back your profile with a very strong application. The application acts as the window through which the admission committee can peer into your skills calibre and personality. But simultaneously, it is also the way through which you can highlight your strengths and give apt justifications for your weaknesses to smooth over any flaws in your profile. Moreover, a strong application sets you apart from the rest of the competition and hence it is imperative that you use this tool in your arsenal to the best of your advantage.

Since the major chances of your admission depend on the quality of your application, you might want to seek professional help to secure your spot in your target schools. You can check our, All-in-One Solution, to gain insights into how we can assist in creating a strong application. A good GMAT coupled with strong essays and an early application should help you get into your target schools.

Hi katsiano,

First and foremost, you have a very strong GPA score of 8.9 which vouches for your strong academic prowess. Since you have studied economics and business in your undergraduate, your path towards the same field in your masters showcases the relevancy and consistency in the pattern of your academic and professional choices. Additionally, your participation in student exchange programs highlights your international experience and also showcases how you have gained a broadened perspective and adaptability quotient which is something these B-schools are always on the lookout for.

Coming to your work experience, you have a very diverse work experience wherein you have delved into various business verticals in different companies, thus showcasing that you have a penchant for learning and growing. However, you have lack big brand names under your profile which is something that is always favored by the B-schools. Since most of your competitors belong from the big 4 companies, you need to set yourself at par with them by drawing attention to the intensity of your work experience by highlighting why you choose these particular companies, what projects you handled, the skills that you gained and what were your major takeaways.

Furthermore, your participation in the extracurricular activities is equally important as it will showcase a holistically developed profile which is what the schools are looking for. Needless to say, you definitely possess a decent hold on your extracurricular activities through your active involvement as the head of the techno’s Human resources team and as a volunteer in a childcare association. These highlight your leadership skills and your empathetic and socially aware nature which is something every school holds in high regards. Moreover, you can also highlight the kind of events you organized, duties you performed and your major takeaways from the same. Additionally, to further boost your profile you can also talk about any major certifications that you undertook to highlight your constant thirst for knowledge and upscaling your skills. All in all, varied skills can contribute towards you being a great future leader which would automatically impress the adcoms.

Moving on, you have mentioned that you have well-known professors from top universities as your referee which is great, but you need to understand that these referrals should come from someone who has observed your progress on a first-hand basis.

Speaking of your GMAT score, a 650 falls on the lower end, especially when looking at schools like HEC and St Gallen which mostly prefer scores above 710+. Thus, to counter this problem, I highly suggest you retake your GMAT test.

Speaking of the schools you are targeting, St. Gallen follows a pattern wherein they only accept two students from each country which means that your profile needs to be of extraordinary stature which is something that is lacking in your case. Thus, I would suggest you skip this school and focus on other schools. Apart from this, HEC and Bocconi come under the dream category (where your chances of acceptance is 40%) while ESCP and ESSEC come under the competitive category ( where your chances of acceptance is 50-60%) and Emlyon falls under the safe category (where your chances of acceptance is 70%). However, you can boost your chances of acceptance by focusing on the kind of application you are submitting. Your application is basically what differentiates you by highlighting your strengths and overshadowing your weaknesses.

That said, if you are contemplating on how to draft an impactful application, you can check out our All-in-one service, which is a complete end to end consulting process right from helping you shortlist your schools, providing personalized application suggestions to unlimited edits and expert consultants who would constantly be there to help you throughout your journey. Bonjour ;

7. Created and sold artwork at college fests

I'm aiming for Singapore Management University and their MiM course in particular. I'm also applying for MICA, Ahmedabad, India.

Any input/ advice would be welcome!

Hey akyu,

You have a very unique profile. Your nationality and fluency in languages, such as Japanese and English, showcases your cultural adaptability and broadened perspective which definitely works in your favour. Academically you have a great GPA and your undergraduate program in Communication Studies being unique, will help differentiate you from the crowd. Most B-schools are looking to add diversity to their cohort and your background gives you a unique perspective which definitely provides a value addition to their program.

Coming to your work experience, your role as a Content Writer of 1.5 years in TCS as well as your multiple internships showcase an extensive amount of professional pragmatic exposure. You have a pretty varied work profile with stints in writing, production, designing, and animation, and although you have a big brand on your CV which works in your favour, you would need to connect the dots and showcase your journey in order to gain an upper hand with equally competent profiles with extensive work experience hailing from the big four brands. You ought to explain and highlight the major projects of your work and how these experiences helped develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. To further strengthen and differentiate your profile, highlight why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took and any kind of impact created to portray the knowledge gained from these experiences.

Coming to your extracurriculars, you have a lot of experience in leadership roles which are again great value additions. This showcases your ability to spearhead initiatives, impact others, and empathize with other people. B-schools are looking for applicants that are future leaders and such experiences and qualities most certainly vouch for your abilities and strengthen your application.

As far as your GMAT goes, an overall score of 620 will prove to be difficult in allowing you to secure an admission in Singapore Management University. Although, you can alternatively attempt to crack the school’s own entrance test which would thereby grant you a second attempt to secure a better chance of acceptance. In addition to this, to ensure an admit from your target school, I’d suggest you lay emphasis on your admission application as a strong application holds 30% of weightage in the entire admission process and is also the way through which you can highlight your strengths and give apt justifications for your weaknesses to smooth over any flaws in your profile. Moreover, a strong application sets you apart from the rest of the competition and hence it is imperative that you use this tool in your arsenal to the best of your advantage.

Lastly, it is always imperative to target a good mix of 6-8 schools in the dream, competitive, and safe category, in order to hedge your bets wisely. Having said that, if you want to know more about other top B-schools that you can be targeting, you can take up a FREE Profile Evaluation that will give you more accurate and personalized suggestions based on your inputs.
