Hi! I'd like to have a profile evaluation.
I have 2.2 years of work experience at the moment in the IT consulting industry where I'm working with Deloitte USI currently. I got a GMAT score of 650 (Q49,V30). 12th CBSE: 92%, 10th ICSE: 92%. I did my engineering in IT from Pune University with 70% average. (IT/Female/Engineer) I have good/decent number of extracurriculars to strengthen my profile. I also have entrepreneurial experience in the retail & corporate gifting space. I'm looking at colleges like HEC, LBS, ESSEC, ESCP, Imperial. Would also like to know if I stand a chance for MBA right now with this profile.
Looking forward to your inputs!
Thanking you in advance!
Hey
srishtimaitra,
Before beginning with your profile evaluation, one thing that I would like to mention is that MIM is designed for people with zero to two years of work experience and a few schools like LBS are very stringent about this criterion and don’t accept candidates with 2+ years of work experience. However, european schools like HEC, ESSEC, ESCP are comparatively flexible as they even accept guys with two years of work experience. For Imperial, you would need to confirm your eligibility by dropping in an email to the school.
Now commencing your profile, I would say that your academic background is fairly decent. Your 70% in undergraduate not only displays your academic prowess but also opens a lot of opportunities and doors to most of the countries abroad. Your GMAT, however, is a bit on the lower end, and I am going to be honest here - While I’ve helped applicants with 640 GMAT (and a strong application) get into LBS, it is going to be tough for HEC (After all, it enjoys a Harvard Like Status for MiM). HEC Paris is a highly competitive school with a minimum GMAT requirement of 710, hence I would definitely suggest you to opt for a retake.
Talking about your extracurricular activities, which is equally important as it showcases a holistically developed profile, unfortunately you have not mentioned any details. However, to give you a brief idea of how to go about with this, you can elaborate on the clubs and associations you were involved in, the teams you led, certifications you undertook and most importantly your volunteering activities along with NGOs. Here you can further talk about the kind of events you organized, duties you performed, and most importantly highlight what were your major takeaways.Talk about your entrepreneurial experience in the retail and corporate gifting space and how you have gone above and beyond the role. All in all, varied skills can contribute towards you being a great future leader which would automatically impress the adcoms.
Coming on to your professional front, you have a very extensive work experience in the IT consulting industry. Moreover, you have a good brand on your CV which definitely plays a major role in boosting your application as you’d be competing with applicants from the top schools and other big brand firms. To differentiate yourself from the applicant pool, you can talk about the kind of projects you have undertaken, the impacts you created and your career progression with major learning takeaways.
Coming to your school choices, as mentioned earlier, LBS is out of the picture, on the other hand, HEC and Imperial come under the dream category with an acceptance rate of 40-50% whereas ESSEC and ESCP fall under the competitive category with an acceptance rate of 60-70%.
In order to hedge your bets wisely, here are a few school suggestions that you can be looking at in the competitive and safe category:
Competitive: FSFM, IESEG, IE, ESADE
Safe: Skema, Grenoble, EDHEC
As for your query regarding your eligibility for an MBA, you can be targeting schools in countries like Canada, UK, Germany and Singapore. Here are a few schools that you can be widening your options towards:
Canada: Ivey, Queens, Schulich, UBC
Germany: WHU, FSFM, ESMT, Mannheim
UK: LBS, Cass, UCL, Kings, Alliance Manchester,Durham
Singapore: SMU, NUS, NTU, Insead
On that note, my advice would be to apply as early as possible without any further delay. At max, you can apply for the Round 3 deadlines in March. During this period you can prepare for your GMAT and alongside work on your application. An application through its various components such as essays, LORs and SOPs would help you to highlight your strengths and give apt justifications for your weaknesses to smooth over any flaws in your profile. Moreover, the application acts as the window through which the admission committee can peer into your skills, calibre and your personality.
Lastly, since the major chances of your admission depend on the quality of your application, you might want to seek professional help to secure your spot in your target schools.
