hello, guys.
last year (2002) in march i took gmat, scored - 260 (q16/v12)
, this year, august 9, i retook it again, scored - 490 (q33/v25)
.
why 260? because i was so stupid to think that i'll get a big score "walking and chewing gum" (bogdan and stolyar, did i translate "pOhodya" from russian properly?
). i studied well in my school and institute (undergrad) and thought that even without preparation i'll do the big score. "roga mne bystro oblomali" - sort of "they were pretty nice to let me know i was wrong".
very slowly i started preparing for second try. very slowly. i bought pr, cracking the gmat, 2003 edition from amazon. learnt the basics of verbal and quant cracking. tried the cd-tests. never got more than 510. but i was in rush, i thought, i had to apply right this year, because i become more and more older each year (next summer i'll be 30). so simultaneously with preparation to gmat i was busy by perusing of b-schools' sites, choosing the right school for me and, of course, with my primary work duties. in spite of the fact i felt i was still weak in gmat, i arranged my test on august 9. i thought may be with some lucky i'll get some 630-650 and prepare my applications during august, september, part of october ... noway!! "aha, schazzzzz!!!!!"
so, this is what happened. now i'd like to get your advice, guys. of course, after seeing 490 on screen i wanted to commit suicide immediately
. but a little bit later i felt that my intention to apply to b-school did not die. and here is my plan (which is based on almost all threads i read in this forum).
i buy a couple of another books from amazon, namely:
- kaplan GMAT 2004 with cd-rom
-
the official guide for GMAT review, 10th edition
- kaplan gre and GMAT exams math workbook, third edition
- kaplan GMAT verbal workbook
- verbal workout for the GMAT (princeton review)
as for first two, i'll buy them in any case. but regarding last three, please, share your opinion, in terms of saving money. i can afford them all, but i don't want repetition. with each book i want to get new ideas and strategies. in customers' review in amazon one customer, for example, said regarding kaplan verbal workbook: "if you have kaplan GMAT 2004 with cd-rom it will be just waste of money if you buy verbal workbook separately". so do you think i'll behave right, if i buy kaplan mathbook and pr verbal-book only?
may be i could avoid buying mathbook also, because i feel (and you see results above) that i am stronger in quant. ("ironiya sud'by" - "twist of fate" - i graduated from language learning institute and my profession is "teacher of english language"
). but anyway q 33-35 is not affordable, i realize that.
after preparation good enough, in around april, i'll take my third and definitely last gmat. if it's not above 700, i'll forget about any b-school. if >700, then i'll apply.
what do you think, gentlemen? your soonest reply is highly appreciated, because there is somebody in usa now and he can bring those books for me, if i order delivery to his address. (thus, i'll spare another buck or two).
attention of bogdan.
