Hi
mbamission,
Please help me evaluate my profile as I really have no idea why I was rejected by all schools. I know that online MBA has some lower requirements than its full time counterpart and even some graduate degrees, but I was rejected by eight schools in a month. Thank you so much!
My profile:
-27 years old US citizen (Asian male, which hurts a lot. Because I know if I’m a non-Asian I can easily get into even bigger programs without any problem. Though I’m also 1/8 Latino and 1/8 Caucasian, schools do not allow me to list multiple races).
-2.7 gpa in advertising (switched from biomedical engineering midway through senior year), took six years to graduate with a degree.
-308 GRE (V151 Q157 4.0 AW) first try, studied for two months and received a 309 (V160 Q149 4.0 AW), Will probably never retake again.
-nearly four years (47 months) of pre-graduate entrepreneurship experiences in automotive industry. Seven months of post-graduate entrepreneurship experiences in both automotive industry and information technology (total 54 months). $20M in annual sales revenue (that’s before all expenses), $2M annual earnings.
-the reason that I failed to succeed in biomedical engineering was because I was a new immigrant who barely spoke English back in the day, plus a severe illness that prevented me from attending school for a whole year.
I was rejected by Florida State, Johns Hopkins, UIUC, Maryland, UMiami, VCU, IU and Boston. All of these were online MBA programs.
I had two pretty solid reference letters (one from my school professor/regular customer; another from my business partner/also a distant relative). I also took the opportunity to write optional essays to explain my gpa issue and unique working experiences (worked full-time while studied full-time as a student).
I heard from many that typically adcom loves to hear from people with unique life and work experiences, and they also give applicants with opportunity to explain, but what I had done wrong here?
