Today I gave a diagnostic test of GMAT (only VA and Quant) and got a disappointing 450. I want to achieve a score of at least a 650. My verbal score was 20 and quants 32. I also have the GMAC official guide 2017 as well as princeton review verbal and quants guide and mock test material. Please guide me how to start preparing for GMAT as I want to apply in Fall 2017/Spring 2018. Also please tell me the right and efficient manner in which I can plan my study. Thanks.

i am not an expert but i can explain something
1. The result of diagnostic test is your starting point , it is not any indication of your goal score, 650 is quite possible so dont be tense about your diagnostic test result
2. Best Material for preparation is (in my point of view)
1. OG Guides
2. Manhattan Strategy Guides (preferable 6th Edition)
3. GMAT Club (for practice)
3. Best Material for Mocks is
1. Manhattan 6 mock tests (49$) (You can get these test on GMAT Club by earning 150 points of GMAT Club Rewards)
2. GMAT Club Tests (Best for Math) (80$ for 3 months) (You can get these test on GMAT Club by earning 100 points of GMAT Club Rewards or 25 Kudos)
3. Veritas prep 7 Mocks Tests (49$) ((You can get these test on GMAT Club by earning 100 points of GMAT Club Rewards)
4. Start with Manhattan GMAT Strategy Guides , Learn all strategies, tips and Concepts...do practice with each strategy you have learned...
You can do practice with OG Guides And GMAT Club (your practice should be timed) Review your practice.
5. Go to mocks to know your approx Current position/progress
6. preferably do your mocks when you have learned much material and thoroughly review your results...

Many Test Takers are unhappy with their initial practice scores, but you really shouldn't be. It's just a measure of your skills right now - and you're going to build up your skills as you continue to study. A 450 isn't too bad either - the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 540-550 most years. That having been said, raising a 450 to a 650+ will take some serious work and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. You would likely find it beneficial to invest in a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led).
1) How many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?
2) When are you planning to take the Official GMAT?
