Hi swatygi,

Since you're not planning to apply to Business School until next year, you have plenty of time to focus on the GMAT - which was a smart choice on your part. Now you have to commit to a consistent study routine and focus on learning/practicing the proper Tactics to raise your GMAT score. An improvement of 240+ points will take some significant effort, but the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Test, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Given what you've described about your prior studies, you would still likely benefit from investing in a GMAT Course of some type. Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at our website (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional questions, then just let me know.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi

I need expert advise on my Gmat Preparation. I have joined a offline classes. The classes are over and I have almost finished OG 17 once on my behalf almost( doubts uncleared). My scores varied as following:
Mock 1( Before the classes began) : 490 V17, Q41
Mock 2: 550 V25, Q41
Mock 3(recently) : 480 V14, Q43

I am really disheartened. I have a strong feeling that something is definitely wrong in my practice and so I could not make it. I am not able to make a strict schedule. I ma a working professional and I feel it is definitely required to have a plan. Please help me out with my preparation strategies. Should I join some online preparation course like e-gmat for verbal since I already followed up with all the coaching material but could make no progress and even my doubts remain uncleared. I don't want the timeto flow out of my hands. Please help me out how should i proceed. I aim to achieve 730+ and ready to follow any plan.

Thanks in advance

Hi swatygi,

The best way to improve is by trying to drill down into each problem type to ace them.

SC: The questions test various concepts such as S-V agreement, modifiers, parallelism etc. Find out what troubles you. As a general guide line, you can start solving a question by taking the following things in consideration:

1. Find out the subject and the verb
2. See that the S&V agree in number
3. Look out for the modifiers
4. Look out for parallelism
5. Look out for usage of certain words - such as vs like, few vs less etc.

CR: There might be certain types of questions that are troubling you. May be Assumption, may be conclusion, inference etc.
You need to find that out and then practice them
RC: This again can be drilled down into different types of questions and also different topics. See what questions and topics trouble you the most and then practice accordingly.
Quants: Again try to break the questions in topics such as Algebra, Number system (very important), Geometry, PnC etc.

As an addition, start preparing an error log and keep a note of all the mistakes you made and the lessons you learnt from the problems. This will ensure you do not make the same mistake again.
