we can calculate x without much of calculation through standard deviation as we know -ve deviation =+deviation(taken form mean).
so when we take deviation form 47(taking x=47) then -7(+)-4=8+3 that will equal to zero so the value for X will be 47

hence answer must be C

Over a six-game stretch of her basketball season, Sonya scored 50, 47, 40, 43, 55, and x points. If her average score was x, what is the value of x?

A. 45
B. 46
C. 47
D. 48
E. 49

\(\frac{( 50 + 47 + 43 + 55 + x )}{6} = x\)

Or, \(235+ x = 6x\)

Or, \(5x = 235\)

So, \(x = 47\)

Thus, answer must be (C) 47

Sonya scored 50, 47, 40, 43, 55, and x points. Her average score was x
We can write: (50 + 47 + 40 + 43 + 55 + x)/6 = x
Multiply both sides by 6 to get: 50 + 47 + 40 + 43 + 55 + x = 6x
Simplify to get: 235 + x = 6x
Subtract x from both sides: 235 = 5x
Solve: x = 235/5 = 47

Answer: C

Brent
