Cross posting from my reddit post:
I plan on doing an MBA for sure, but am having a hard time deciding between full time and part time programs. I'd like to hear some thoughts from folks on here. Adding my profile for some context.
Academics: Master's in robotics from a US university (>3.9 GPA) and an undergrad degree in Mechanical Engineering from one in India (Top 10 university, 7.7/10 GPA). I also have a few publications in a few conferences, including one with a pretty high impact factor.
Work ex: 1 year in a research lab (before starting grad school), 2 years working for a mid size robotics startup as a robotics software engineer (some leadership experience, currently a supervisor and have been the project tech lead for a couple different projects).
Extra curriculars: Very active in several clubs and departments and headed three different student organizations during my undergrad. No extra curricular involvement during grad school except through courses I took (mountaineering, dance). Currently part of the company badminton club and organizer for the deep reinforcement learning group.
Test score: 770 GMAT
Future plans: I'd like to transition slightly to be a product manager in tech because of the better work life balance as well as the advantage I have because of my technical background and see where that leads me. I do not plan on switching to consulting/finance.
My biggest concerns with a FT program are 2 years of lost wages, age (I'll be on the older side of applicants), and loss of time that would've otherwise added up to valuable work experience.
My concern with a PT program is that it won't be taken seriously. Also, because of geography, my options are to go to NYU Stern, fly into Chicago to go to Booth/Kellogg every weekend although that will be expensive, or switch to a job in the bay area and go to Haas.
I'm pretty sure that I will be able to carve a path for myself regardless of what I choose, but would like to hear from the community. Thoughts?
