Hi anuhyam,

Out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why you have to take your GMAT next week, or could you give yourself more time if you needed it?

Hi there,

My exam is a week away and I feel like I found the worst time to plateau. :(

The past three practise tests I've taken have scores of
oldest score - 680 (v - 38 and q - 45)
620 (v - 31 and q - 44)
newest one 640 (v 32 and q 44)

According to my analysis most of the questions I'm answering incorrectly are within the 600-700 difficulty level. Do you think if I focus on the harder problems I can still work on improving my score and the time is enough ? Any tips on how I can maximise the score will be greatly appreciated.

I am in almost a state of panic but I know I'm doing the best I can so I will not dwell on it too much.

*deep breathes*

Anyone who has faced this issue when you wrote the test first time please feel free to give me advice

anuhyam

Assume that the upcoming test is a practice test for another attempt later and then take it. Do your best in the next 3-4 days, then rest and then take the test. You might want to review your concepts of the topics in which you stumble most often.
Also, I noticed that you have used just the official material till now. Yes, it is the gold standard for practice questions, especially verbal, but it doesn't explain the fundamentals of the relevant topics in detail. It just gives you an overview and if you are struggling, you might want to look at the products offered by the test prep companies.

Hi anuhyam,

Out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why you have to take your GMAT next week, or could you give yourself more time if you needed it?

Since I have a full time job, it is very difficult to focus on the exam and work full time right... I know other people have done it but I have challenges when it comes to multi tasking (right now I don't think im doing my best at my job because im focusing 100% here). If I continue to do so I am afraid ill not be looking at growth opportunities that im already letting go of. I still have another year before my exam and if I could show some growth on my profile I think it'll look good.

And also the fact that im giving it my best - Im so exhausted by the end of the day. Im not very sure if I can push further than this. The prep hasn't been a very easy process for me and idk if I would want to do it all over again. that's all.

I guess ill give it my best and then think of the next steps based on the score. I do know that time is on my side here because I'm planning to apply next year. So that's one less thing to worry about.

Thank you Karishma, I think I'll take that up I have some material with the coaching people that I could still go through on the topics im weak on. And the 3-4 days advice, yes I think that's best too. instead of worrying too much about the outcome I will control what is in my reach.

newest one 640 (v 32 and q 44)

V31 to V40 re-take in roughly 30 days

Might provide some insight. They took a bit of solving approach tutoring but also did other stuff that may provide some helpful insight.

If I'm being 100 percent honest, I say you find a way to make your GMAT prep work with your current work situation, and just prepare until you feel ready to take the GMAT. Yeah, the process sucks, but if you can get it done RIGHT - the payoff will be huge, and I think you know that.
