Hi,
I have a GMAT of 740.
6.6 CGPA from a top 50ish institute in India. BTech.
1 year of below average work-ex.
Then joined a startup (2% equity). Equity worth more than 100,000 USD now.
Been working there for 2.5 years now.
Job profile -
Leading a team of 6-7 people
Finding new opportunities to tie up with local businesses.
Understand consumer behavior. Conducting pilots etc.
I think you get the idea. Leadership stories and examples are there to justify my goal of start-up in near future.
Extra- curricular
Nothing extra-ordinary.
Organised a fest during college.
Assuming stellar recommendations from my supervisor and company owner.
What kind of colleges am I looking at?
Top 15? Top 10? Top 5?
I understand my GPA is low. I can not change that.
To showcase interest in my future goals I thought, maybe doing a Wharton entrepreneurship specialisation on coursera will help. So I am doing that right now.
Is my short-term goal of start-up feasible?
The first qn. someone can ask is why do you want to wait 2-3 years (doing MBA)? Your idea might be obsolete by then.
Why not try getting into an incubator instead of B-School?
I read B-Schools don't want to admit students at employment risk (who have short-term goal of start-up). Lowers their employment numbers, which are imp. in rankings.
Given the information you have provided here I'd say your MBA sweet spot lies int he 10-30 range.
You have several weaknesses - low GPA, non IIT grad, and unknown company, but also some nice positives, mainly your GMAT and your leadership.
As for your goals - in general startup goals aren't good goals to go with. Not unless you are already running the start-up. So yep, what you read is right. But do figure out some goal that will make sense in terms of your profile and your goals, and find a nice compromise between the two.
