Too risky? Not at all. Your GMAT score is not bad
You also have an added advantage
(1) CFA. (2) Work experience Retake to even target top 10 if you not pressed for time

Hi Guys, I want to apply for MSF in US next year. Would you mind to take a look on my profile?

Age: 25
GMAT: 650 (Q:48, V:31)
GPA: 3.2/4.0
Work Experience: 3 years in the in-house investment department of a commercial company
CFA: Passed all 3 levels, and would probably be chartered next year

Target School: 1st: UIUC; 2nd: Boston College

Is it too risky to aim this two schools? Or should i retake the GMAT?

Thank you so much for your help.

CFA is great, as is the amount of work experience you have. I do think a number of better MSF programs would guide you to their MBA programs since you will have enough experience.

IMO - BC is a good PT option assuming you are local. I wouldn't do a FT MSF with your experience and the CFA. If you aren't near a good part time option, consider Georgetown. Otherwise, work on improving your GMAT and do an MBA program. Assuming you can up your verbal, you'd be competitive for T25 programs. You would get a better ROI with that approach.

Thank you for your help! Unfortunately, I am not a local US citizen so i have to take a full time program of MSF. Do you mean that I might not be able to get into BC FT MSF?
And I would prefer MSF than MBA because MBA seems more related to networking while I am not yet at the management level. Thank you again for your help.

Hi ,
A pretty good profile I must say - GPA is decent, CFA is pretty good and work ex looks good as well , though it would have helped if you mentioned the company names.
I would suggest you to see if you can notch up your GMAT score by 30-40 points - Not only will it help you for your current target schools, but you will be able to apply to more competitive schools with a better GMAT score . Since the rest of your profile is fairly good and you have time in hand before the application , I would suggest a retake.
Illinois would be upper competitive for you, Boston is more achievable. However, I would suggest you to apply to at least 4-6 schools- Divide them into dream, competitive and safe to stand the chance of getting into one of the top MSF Programs.
Also, like I mentioned I think you can apply to more competitive programs as well - So I would suggest you to take up a free profile evaluation so that I can get more details and guide you on the school suggestions part.

Let me know if you need any other help !

Thank you so much! I will work hard on GMAT then.

Thank you for your help! Actually I thought BC and UIUC are two of the top 10 in US based on their website. Is there a trustworthy list for the top 10 program?

Hi nosaejohn, I would say that there are far more competitive programs. We have created a robust algorithm to categorize MFin schools in dream (Top Schools), competitive (Mid-Tier Schools) and Safe ( Fair Schools) based on their rankings, national and global brand and placement statistics.
Here is a snipppet of the same:
Dream: Michigan, Princeton, NYU, USC Marshall, UC San Diego, Boston Questorm
Competitive: Vanderbilt, Duke,Texas Mc Combs
Mid-Tier : University of Buffalo, Rutgers

If you want to check out the dream, competitive and safe programs as per your profile, you can take up a profile evaluation here: https://www.mim-essay.com/profile-evaluation?gmat-pe

Let me know if this helped :)
