Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your information with us! You find yourself in a difficult situation, and I'm sorry to hear your recent project didn't pan out the way you thought it would. From purely a b-school perspective, when I look at the key areas of the application, you're slightly behind the curve on your GMAT and GPA (more so on your GPA) for your target schools, but it sounds like there is a good reason for your grades and we can address that in an optional essay. Your current employment status does put you in a disadvantage, so the key is going to be to find a way to highlight the silver lining. What have you learned? How have you been spending your time since March? What steps have you taken to get back into the workforce? I know you shared some information, but the story needs to go much deeper. Another question is going to be your letters of recommendation - will you have much cooperation from your previous managers? Are they the ones you really want to write them? Your community involvement is decent, but based on what you shared, it doesn't really stand out from the crowd. That being said, most of your target schools are going to be a stretch.
From a career management standpoint, it's important to get back into the workforce as soon as possible. That's not to say that you should take a job that you hate for the sake of being employed. This happened to you in March, so give yourself a few months to find an opportunity to identify the jobs you're really passionate about. Set an expiration of how much time you'll give yourself before you move to the next tier. A lower level job at this stage of your career isn't detrimental so long as you have a plan to build your career back up. I don't know that a car salesman is the right move, but maybe a senior analyst role as opposed to a manager role at a tier 2 consulting firm is an option for you. Or, have you thought about looking at opportunities as an independent contractor? Finding a short-term gig as a PM might be a good interim role as you solidify your future plans.
Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!
