Thanks very much for your help! I took the GMAT last week and got a 780 (Q50 V8). I am planning to go into nonprofit management and would like to apply to an MBA program sometime in the next five years, but because my work experience is relatively limited, I'm trying to figure out what would be the best year for me to apply.
Demographics: 25-year-old White guy
Undergrad: Top 5 liberal arts college; 3.63 GPA, B.A. in Psychology
I'm currently in a Master of Social Work program at a school in Texas.
Experience: 1.5 years as an AmeriCorps VISTA member--I spoke to faith communities about unaccompanied minors fleeing to the US from Central America and preared an educational toolkit on forced migration.
I spent a year in a Catholic religious order, but realized I was not called to celibacy--thus the transition to social work.
Following my graduation from the MSW n 2018, I plan to work in the social services/mental health sector. I would ultimately wish to work as an administrator in this field, hence the MBA plans.
My questions are: (1 What year should I apply to enter an MBA program the following year, assuming I work full-time after graduating? I know that experience is my weak spot right now. I'd like to apply sooner rather than later, but I also wouldn't want to jeopardize my chances.
(2 What would my chances be at these schools (I may narrow this list down as time goes on):
1. Yale
2. Harvard
3. Wharton
4. Correll
5. Georgetown
6. Columbia
7. UVA
8. UT

Hi there,
Congrats on a fabulous GMAT!!! This is great news and will certainly help.
Overall I feel you're still a bit early in the process and it's harder to predict, besides the fact that you KNOW you've nailed the GMAT, how your profile will stack up for top schools. Certainly the score will get you a close review hopefully, and you've already amassed some interesting life and community experiences. But I'd feel best if you had at least 3 years or so of full-time work experience by the time you begin the program, so after graduating with the MSW consider working a year or two and then applying. Keep in touch in the coming year/s and it's great that you are thinking ahead!! You will be well positioned to do some early research that will only benefit you in the process, that some who apply late run out of time for. Spend some time really getting to know the schools you are interested in. Best wishes!

Thanks, I appreciate your help! Another question: should I put some safety schools on my list? I feel it would be arrogant for me to assume that I'm going to get into one of these top schools, even if I have reasons to be hopeful.
Also, would it be unrealistic to try to apply to 6-8 schools in Round 1? I don't really know how long the applications would take, but I figure that there will be a lot of overlap between the essays, and maybe even the recommendations.
Obviously I don't have to think about the logistics of the application process for a while, but your advice would be appreciated.
