Hi, and thanks for writing! Your academics are excellent, and you're certainly off to a strong start with your career. You've had good community involvement as well, and I'm glad to see that you plan to ramp it up as you settle into your new city.
Your career goals in PE make sense to me, but you'll want to explain in your applications what motivates you to focus on emerging markets/entrepreneurship so that the admissions committee can get to know you well.
Regarding your school choice - be aware that H/S/W are intensely competitive - even though the company you're entering has strong alumni from these schools, the success of your candidacy will be far more impacted by the quality of your application. At the least, I certainly would not refer to Wharton as a "backup." In this process, I've seen some very well-rounded candidates get turned down by all three schools. So, while it makes sense for you to focus on H/S/W, I'd consider branching out a little - Booth would be a sound addition to the list. And for each school you target, make a very strong case for why it is a fit for you based on its culture and resources within and outside of the classroom (this will require thorough research, including speaking with students and alumni).
Best of luck!

Work Experience
1) 2 and change years of work for Tier 2 consultancy (e.g., Oliver Wyman, Booz, LEK) with a focus on strategy and due diligence (~20 due diligence, growth strategy for F500 (double revenue), starting a school chain from scratch, M&A search, etc.) Promoted every year (A2A - top 10%ish of class)
2) Six months early stage impact venture capital in an impact area (e.g., education, cleantech, etc.) (sabbatical from consulting)
3) (upcoming) ~2y in upper middle market private equity (e.g., GTCR, Francisco Partners, New Mountain Capital) with very strong alumni in H/S alumni leadership positions
Extracurriculars
1) Junior board involvement with two education non-profits on the side (first ~2 and change years out of school, then moved cities, need to get re-involved in new boards)
2) Did some side of desk consulting projects for non-profit companies as part of my firm's non profit consulting committee (this is an EC)
Post MBA goals
Special situations investing / megafund private equity, doing things like opening offices for expanding private equity funds (e.g., go start an Africa office), financial entrepreneurship (starting a fund long term - need the H/S network).
Target Schools
Only applying to H/S/W, W as a backup, the rest don't really have recruiting pipelines that are attractive or reliable.
