Hello,
I just wanted to discuss various aspects on which I might be lacking, but I am unaware of. I attempted GMAT for the first time in September last year and scored 440 ( I prepared without any external courses) after which I enrolled in a GMAT course and in my second attempt which was today, I scored 440 (16V and 36M) again despite rigorous practice to fill my conceptual gaps and scoring 560s on Mock tests. I am not sure in which area I am lacking since its a computer adaptive test and on what basis the computer algorithm decides the score. I am planning to take my third attempt in the first week of April. Could you please guide me on which I area I can primarily focus to increase my score to at-least 600 in this span of 1 month.

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) How long did you study before each attempt? For this 2nd attempt, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
Goals:
4) Is your overall goal score a 600 or something else?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hello Rich,
Thank you so much for your reply. I have been studying for about 9-10 hrs a week as I usually spend about 2 hrs after work to focus on concepts. In my first attempt, I had this thing in mind that I have to score 700+, but after the first result it seemed quite unrealistic. So in this attempt I was hoping to score 600+. I have actually started my application to couple top business schools like Yale, Columbia, NYU and MIT but I was planning to improve my scores before submitting in order to at least achieve a level of slightly below average. I am currently using E-GMAT to prep for the exam and I took my first Mock on Friday and took 2 mock tests yesterday which actually improved my score from 380 to 420 to 500 as their mock tests are slightly different than official mock tests which GMAT got and before my first attempt, I gave 4 mock tests of official gmat and scored 580 on the latest one. I took online version of the exam.
