Why exactly are you taking so many attempts? What has been your score?

Hi agodre,

I agree that it’s going to be challenging to win an appeal to take a ninth GMAT. That said, could you provide some more information on your situation with the GMAT? Why you have taken the GMAT seven times?

I have a slightly different point of view. We’ve had a number of people take the test eight times. Not a lot but a number over the years, including after the lifetime limit was introduced three or five years ago (I can’t remember but that’s not important).

Anyway, I have never heard of any one of them mentioned that their appeal to take the test again was denied. You cannot assume that your request will be granted but in my experience it should. However, you cannot count on it and there is a five tests per year limit that is pretty strictly observed.

I think for all purposes financial and psychological, you should plan for this retake to be your final retake.

Has anyone had a successful appeal regarding taking the GMAT for the 9th time? I have my 8th GMAT attempt coming up next month, and I am debating on moving it for another month just in case this likely becomes my last attempt. The GMAC rules state that if you have a genuine reason they may grant you another attempt; however, I have only seen rejected appeals on this forum. Should I move my exam for another month just to be safe?

Hi agodre,

One of my friends, who has given GMAT 8 times, just made an appeal to GMAC 2 weeks back and heard back yesterday. During his 8th attempt he was suffering from a very high fever, and he also attached the doctors certificate in his appeal. However, his appeal was denied by GMAC saying they cannot make an exception. He is now planning to move to the GRE. I recommend that you postpone your exam by a month if you are not very confident giving it next month.

Hope this helps. All the best!
