Hi I would love for you some of you guys to review my application I'm about to graduate. I know I have a few years until I apply but this is where I am now. My dream is to go to a top 10, ideally Haas, but I recognize I have a low GPA. I want to do as much as I can so that my GPA won't be an issue when I apply in a few years. What would you guys recommend to up my chances and do I have a shot at the top 10? if not what schools should I be considering? I know I will need a 700+ bc of my GPA.

BBA and MS in Accounting at a top state school 3.2 GPA Will have CPA at graduation
Just passed CFA level 1 (is this worth trying to finish?)
Half Hispanic- Born out of the country-I have 3 citizenships-Spanish was my first language. Grew up in US though
Delaying my Full-time offer as an MIS (not BTA) consultant at Deloitte. In order to serve in the Peace Corps.
I have a semi-successful startup currently in a startup incubator. (if this is supper successful things very well change)
Some of the things I have done while in college include helping start a service org (100 members) serve underprivileged high schoolers. I worked as a Photographer on campus as well as an accounting tutor for the athletics department.

Thanks! I appreciate any input!

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! I do think you have a shot at Haas & it's good that you are thinking ahead. You will ideally want to hit a minimum of 730 on the GMAT. That's about where the Haas average lands, and in your case you need a high score to outweigh that GPA if at all possible. If you can exceed the 730 average that would really be the ideal, but you at least want to do your best to hit it. The CFA could help, especially if you can't nail or exceed the 730 target.

The fact that you'll be in the Peace Corps is great -- see if you can get some quantifiable accomplishments under your belt to show that you've had impact there. Having Deloitte on your resume will also be great -- and hopefully you'll gain some strong recommenders there who can vouch for your abilities & potential (which will also help outweigh that GPA). The start up experience has a lot of potential as well and again you want some numbers that will show the specific impact you've made there.

Definitely reach out to us if you'd like some help thinking through your strategy & how to make the most of your time between now & when you apply. We offer an Advanced Planning service for this very reason -- to help candidates like you who are thinking ahead & want to do everything they can to strengthen their application. If you reach out to Claudia at she can share the details with you & answer any questions you might have! She can also set you up with a free consultation with one of our MBA consultants.
