Schools: HEC Jan20 Intake (A) Sauder '22 (A)
Hi All, So I am in a weird situation where I have to choose between Sauder and HEC Paris.
I am an Indian citizen and I have recently received a canadian PR (Permanent Residency). To maintain my PR status I have to live in Canada for at least 2 years in the next 5 year period. Moreover, as a Permanent Resident, my tuition fees at UBC is almost 50% less than that of HEC.
I really love Canada and I am hoping to settle down in Canada. Although I don't mind settling down in Europe, starting out with a work permit and eventually getting a PR over there seems daunting and makes me anxious.
Given my situation, which college should I choose?
My initial reaction was to go to HEC anyway and then move back to Canada after graduation but unfortunately, it looks like HEC Paris is not at well known in Canada and on Linkedin, I could hardly find anyone from HEC currently working in Canada, especially in my industry. Are there any other ways to find out how valuable HEC Paris MBA will be in Canada?
PS: I am in the media industry and my career goal is to get into creative producer/ creative marketing manager roles at large media companies such as Netflix.

As a fellow Indian applying to Canadian schools what I would say is that the location where you intend to work matters a lot.
HEC has a huge market in EU and Middle east. So if these are your preferred destination to settle down then HEC makes sense.
In case you want to build a career in Canada then you should look out for a Canadian school. Making the trans-atlantic shift from EU to Canada can get difficult.
Also I would suggest you consider other Canadian schools also if not already considered.
