Hello folks!

My GMAT is currently booked for 5th August 2017. I am looking at applying to around 3 schools in R1, and 4-5 more in R2. My target is a 750.

I have been studying for the GMAT since May 2017. Although I must mention that my study has really picked up only in the last week of May. I have a 6 day work week and can spare around 4-5 hours a day for my prep. On Sunday I have like 8 - 10 hours. Till date I have been through my MGMAT Strategy guides (Not the RC & CR guide), OG, OG (Quant and Verbal Review), GMAT Prep Question Pack, Powerscore CR Bible and 13 GMAT Club Quant Tests.

I have attempted 3 GMAT Prep mocks in this month. The scores are -

GMAT Prep 1 : 670 (Q 48, V 34). Verbal Breakup (CR 51, RC 28, SC 29).
GMAT Prep 2 : 690 (Q 49, V 35). Verbal Breakup (CR 34, RC 28, SC 40).
GMAT Prep 3 : 680 (Q 48, V 35). Verbal Breakup (CR 29, RC 33, SC 40).

To achieve my target score I have to improve my Quant to a 50 and pull a V41 at least.

Considering the fact that I have two weeks left, I was thinking of rescheduling my GMAT to the last week of August. That way I would have one month more to prep. Am I right in taking this decision?

I also need some advice on how to improve my Verbal Score. I need that 6 point improvement in a month. I have picked up LSAT RC passages since the past few days and am working on solving those on a regular basis. What I can’t really understand is, how could my CR scores fluctuate that badly from one test to another?

Any advice is welcome.

Cheers
Rahul

Hello

In which school you are going to apply for?
Hi Sajjad

I'm thinking of applying to UT Austin - McCombs, Rice - Jones and ISB in R1. Haven't made up my mind on the R2 schools. :)

Hi Rahul,

If you feel you are not prepared for your GMAT fully, you should reschedule. It is imperative to be confident on your GMAT.

E-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live are both amazing courses that can really help you improve your scores. However, given how close your GMAT date is, I personally do not think one should adopt any new method on the final leg of their GMAT Preparation. It may be nice to give a couple of mocks (the official ones) and work on your weaknesses, but trying something new might not work in anyone’s favour. However if you want to improve on any individual area such as Sentence Correction, you may subscribe to the individual SC course as you can finish the whole course in 10 days (with proper dedication). If however you are only looking to indentify and improve on your weak areas, I would encourage you to purchase the e-gmat scholaranium. It is without a doubt, one of the best practice tools for verbal and will indeed help you on the final leg of your preparations.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Hi

I have checked GMAT stats of these school 700 Score is pretty good for these Schools
as your GMAT prep is averaging 680 it can be improved to 700+ but
if your Target is your 750 then it is better to reschedule test till end of
August and strengthen your chances of getting 750 Score
Dont reschedule if your target school are only those you mentioned.
720+ is a good respectable Score for All US Top Schools

Good Luck

My personal suggestion would be to postpone it for another 20 odd days giving you almost a month's time to prepare for R1 applications. In worst case if you take up the exam as scheduled and dont get your target score, you need to give at least a month's time so that you can make some substantial improvement and in that case, you are likely to not do a justice to the quality of your applications for R1.

My 2 cents here but the final choice is yours. All the best!

You're doing quite well, but getting better at that level is generally harder than at a lower level.

You're likely to benefit from a later test date, but even with a later test date, you shouldn't put too much pressure on yourself to get a 750 on the very first try, unless you're consistently scoring 750 or more on your practice tests. You're on track for a very good score. If I were you, I'd first get that score and then aim for an outstanding one.

Thank you rohan! I have rescheduled my exam by a month and i will certainly have a look at the egmat website. I did not know that you could subscribe for just a particular section. Need their help with improving my CR accuracy.

Hi,

Well I have my GMAT exam on 26th. The score I recentlt got in my GNAT PREP 3 is 640, Quant 49, Verbal 29. How can I improve my points? My target is 700.

Thanks,
Neha

At this point in time, i think the best option would be to review your error logs thoroughly and have a good look at your verbal notes. Sorry for the late reply.

This is an interesting topic. I personally do not think one should adopt any new method on the final leg of their GMAT Preparation. It may be nice to give a couple of mocks (the official ones) and work on your weaknesses, but trying something new might not work in anyone’s favour. It would really benefit the community if you can share your experiences on the test day and if you can provide some suggestions if you were able to improve your performance on the GMAT. Thanks.
