[img]Hello,
Though I have used GMAT club for a long time now, this is the first time I am writing a post to seek help/guidance in my GMAT journey
Its been more than a year now that I am appearing for the GMAT. I have never had the experience of a standardized test ever in the past before the GMAT.
I started preparing for the exam in 2015 and did all that most of the people do - Manhattan guides, Official guides,
Magoosh,
E-Gmat etc just to get a sense of the exam and prepare well. The first time I wrote the exam, Nov 2015, I scored a 660 (47 Q, 34 V) and obviously wanted to improve.
Studied for another couple of months and re-took the exam in March, 2016 and was surprised to see a even lower score, 640 (47 Q and 32 V). I was disappointed for fair reasons that in spite of putting more efforts I could not make it.
Anyway, I motivated myself to take that another shot later this year. The most surprising part - I again scored a 640(Q 46 V 32)! This time around I really understood that there is something that I am not getting right or doing the best way. In my latest attempt, I stumbled on a couple of quant questions (Problem solving) right in the first 10 questions in the exam and couldn't solve them right. Verbal went fine until 25 questions, after which I started getting a little tired and losing concentration. I really could not keep up the performance in the final 15 minutes in Verbal and I so knew it that my score would be impacted but didn't hope that it would exactly be the same as last time.. 32!
A very cool thing - Enhanced score report with new insights and analysis - really came to my rescue this time and I believe GMAC is doing a great job by enhancing their ESR to help candidates even further. What I learnt about my test-taking performance over the last 1 year and in every single attempt (Thanks a ton to the ESR for that):
I was screwing up the later questions in Verbal all the time!! The accuracy in the final 30 or 15 mins dipped drastically and in my opinion that's what kept my score low every time. In spite of knowing about the importance of mocks and all, I think my mind is still not trained to deal the entire 75 minutes in each section and I guess that's one piece of advice that most people like me ignore in their prep.
I doubted all the prep as I was consistently scoring the same! But with the new information I really think I'd have to change my overall approach for the next time I write the Exam.
