The math on this question is super easy, but I'm willing to bet some students will get the wrong answer because they solve for x and then choose an answer choice equal to x when we really want an answer choice equal to x+10. Getting good at spotting traps like this is definitely a worthwhile skill to develop! And here's a little trick to use if you do spot a trap early on in reading a question so that you can avoid stepping right into it later. Flip your mouse over as soon as you know that there's some step you're going to need to do at the end to go from "x" to what you really want (or from x to 6x, or from monthly to annual, or whatever other little adjustment you're going to have to make). When you go to grab the mouse and click the answer, the fact that it is upside down will remind you to make sure that you did the last little step.
Okay, so the question:
x + (x+10) = 120
2x+10 = 120
2x = 110
x = 55
So we go to grab our mouse and click B, right? Uh oh, the mouse is upside down...we forgot to get x+10!!
x+10 = 65
Answer choice C.
