B. the effectiveness of home-schooling compared to that of public and private school education
I feel B is more convincing than D .... home-schooling means education at home, which is compared to education at private and public schools.

Can someone clarify on this?

Official explanation by Kaplan ;

The sentence is comparing effectiveness to public schools. This is a faulty comparison. (A) and (C) do not correct the illogical comparison. (E) changes the meaning of the sentence. (D) corrects all the mistakes, and is better than (B) because the nouns being compared are in parallel form.

Hope this helped :-)

Hi,

if we read carefully , B talks about effectiveness of school's education, but what we really want is effectiveness of school.

Same here. Moreover, there is nothing like home school.

Home schooling is a gerund here, and therefore, can be compared with noun. Correct me if I am wrong.
