Can any one clearly explain the correct and incorrect choices??

The intention of the original sentence is to give information about the audience attending the seminar. The original intent is to show that

,( i.e. some people in the audience may have known but a lot of people in the audience did not know) who attended the seminar

about the new theories of quantum mechanics.

Based on the intent we can eliminate choices B,C & D. The choice is between A & E.

Choice "A"- The underlined portion- for not everyone in attendance was knowledgeable is followed by "THAT". Dissect the underlined portion to see that was is a verb followed by knowledgeable, which is an adjective, followed by that. Normally an adjective such as knowledgeable is followed with a preposition. For example- Martha is quite knowledgeable in quantum physics. Moreover, choice E- "for not everyone attending knew" is clearer as the present participle- attending, is followed by a verb- knew.

Therefore, choice E seems appropriate.

Please, let me know the OA.

Since the context is in past we need past tense . Between B and E , E hold the intended meaning as not everyone (some) is not same as 'everyone not'. Therefore correct answer is E.
