Family needs to be compared. Eliminate B, C, E. Only one parent and one parent only are different in meaning. Usually only is placed before what it restricts.
Eg: I have only one blue pen
( I can have other color pen but I only have one blue varient)
I only have one blue pen.
( you don't have anything else. You only have one blue pen)
In the question, we need only one parent and not one parent only.
Answer seems D.

what is being tested is Parallel comparison
only option D IMO corrects this error.
