Hello Rich,
I have been studying for CAT (Common admission test), which happens only in India for about a year. In this CAT(INDIA), exam our main focus is on maths rather than verbal. Recently I started studying for GMAT along this as there is not a much difference in the syllabus except the difficulty level and pattern of both exams. So its been 20 days i have been studying for GMAT.
I have used Manhattan guides of sentence correction and referring other 8 guides as well where I find my weak spots. Along with these guides, I have been practicing question from OG of verbal and quant 2017. Since I completed the questions of RCs from the OG and still dont feel that I have improved much, I will be referring to Aristotle's book fo RCS. I have Kaplan's CAT and quizzes, and veritas prep question bank.

I have given
1. Manhattan CAT - 540 (Q40,V25) {my diagnostic test}
2. Veritas prep CAT - 610 (Q48,V26) {But this test was not according to the time limit provided in the GMAT exam, so I am not considering my this score}
Soon I will be giving Kaplan test today or tomorrow.

I have applied to Indian School of Business(ISB) through YLP. I am on Stage 2 in which we have to submit our GMAT scores. So, Right now my main focus is on ISB. My exam is on 29th August,17.

Any advice that will help me out? I know I have the less time but I believe that anything can be done.
A couple of observations:

1. If you've already done RC for the CAT, there is no point going through an RC book. Instead, focus on practicing actual passages and questions. This is, however, not an area that normally responds to just a little prep.

2. Take a GMATPrep test soon. The other tests you've taken are not meant to replace the main (official) tests.

I would also suggest reviewing your math concepts more. Specifically, the Manhattan books you own should be sufficient to refresh the key ideas (and you can also look into downloading GMAT Clubs Math eBook). Once you get up to around Q48 reliably, you can look more into advanced strategy and test taking tips. Best of luck down the final stretch!

Hi BhumikaMatharu,

Given the timeframe that you've described, you have be really efficient with your studies (and you might need to push back your Test Date. That next CAT score is important, so you should make sure to take that CAT in as realistic a fashion as possible (so take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you think you'll take the Official GMAT, etc.). Once you have that score, you should report back and we can discuss how best to proceed.

Even if that 610 was a realistic assessment of your current abilities, it would likely take at least another 3 months of consistent, guided study to get to a 750+ score. Thus, beyond likely needing to push back your Test Date, you might also need to adjust your score goal a bit.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

only left 20 days for my exam. I have been studying the Official guides and the manhattan's guides only. My maths is good enough but my verbal is weak. So I am focusing more on verbal. I am still clearing out my concepts and I have a lot to study right now. I scored 540 in my diagnostic test and hoping for 750 in actual exam. Any tips regarding how I can be efficient in my preparation under the time limit.
GMAT is very different form CAT. You cannot push your scores beyond a certain point with learning more concepts. Having said that, and assuming that you have been studying Quant in CAT (India) seriously, fixing your weakest section in Verbal would be an obvious starting point. So, first check whether that weakest section is SC or CR. Then, take up the book that you have and follow it religiously. Those books have a good plan of action. But I should let you in on one thing - it takes time to get Very Good in GMAT's Verbal, a necessity to reach 750. Quant can be learned with 30 to 45 days of dedicated practice but Verbal takes time. One last thing - you should start reading at-least 1 article everyday on Economist.com. Its articles have similar grammatical constructions we see in GMAT SC and the flow/development of Idea is similar to that of RC. So, read those articles strategically to score better in test and not to gain more and more knowledge, though it won't hurt.
