Hi, I was wondering if one of you experts could please explain the difference between option A and B. I thought B follows the rules of parallelism perfectly (Please correct me if I am wrong) as the list is in A, B, C, and D order. Or would you say this is simply a blind parallelism? Please explain! Would greatly appreciate it!

Hi guys can someone please help me with this . I was down to A and B . Now in A there is unnecessary use of an extra And so I chose option B.

Hi,

Can anyone please help me understand how is A a better choice than B?
It is a list of uses, so I believe they should be connected with just one "And" as done in B.

Thanks in advance.

In Hinduism, cows are considered sacred and are given the highest respect because they provide constant supply of milk, and their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent preventing various diseases.

A. they provide constant supply of milk, and their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent
B. they provide constant supply of milk, their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent
C. they provide constant supply of milk, and their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, and their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent
D. just as they provide constant supply of milk, their dung can be used as fertilizers for plants, their hair can be used for making painting brushes, as well as their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent
E. they provide constant supply of milk, dung as fertilizers for plants, hair for painting brushes, and urine can be used a therapeutic agent

Hello guys!

Taking the conversation to a better level for everyone.

I was awestruck after noticing that the OA is Option A.

I was spot on with Option B, with 100% accuracy. What i can interpret here is,

Between Option A and Option B,

For Option B,

B. they provide constant supply of milk, their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent

Option B seemed perfect in terms of parallelism and usage of their at the relevant places. But, Alas! it is not the right answer.

Moving towards Option A,

A. they provide constant supply of milk, and their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent

Something i interpreted after noticing the strange OA- The conjunction and is used here to show a difference between 2 utilities. For an example:- they provide constant supply of milk is a provision which is made here, whereas in the latter part the sentence changes its meaning towards using dung or hair or urine for something.

That's the exact need of putting a conjunction in the initial stage.

Official Answer:- Option A

Hope this answer helped you all! :)

Hey buddy! richirish

I am inquisitive to know your perspective here, why is it not upto the GMAT standards?
1. Too difficult?
2. Out of the box?
3. You can specify your concern ___________.

Because all the options have grammatical errors, option B is the closest to a correct sentence, A is definitely not a grammatically correct sentence. Use of "and" is vague and does not really "test" any concept as such, parallelism is all over the place... plethora of reasons.. but you get the drift.

Hey,
So, even i can agree on the same, still i tried to interpret a few things here and there and add a meaning to the sentence where I had to make the SC rules void.

Quote:

A. they provide constant supply of milk, and their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent

See, where this goes!

Source: Experts Global

A and B is confusing but A is correct because

In A and is used as a separator between cow themselves being a source of milk AND list of uses

Now list of uses has 3 elements which needs to be parallel
their dung can be used as fertilizer for plants, and their hair can be used for making painting brushes, and their urine can be used as a therapeutic agent

Hope this helps
