quick debrief of my interview for those that are interested...
app submitted - 9/29 (ED)
invited to interview - 10/16
interviewed - 10/23
male
gmat: 720 (50/37)
gpa: 3.6 from top public us
we: consulting/entrepreneurship/corp strat (6 yrs total)
interview was shorter than what i had expected. it lasted about 45 minutes.
first 15-20 mins were the typical interview questions:
resume rundown
goals
why cbs
other schools
why new york (west coast school, west coast WE)
how i would contribute in the classroom (variation on the typical teamwork-question)
the next 30 mins were just general school questions back/forth. we talked about the value investing program, different clubs, where he lived in new york, how to deal with first year recruiting. though these may sound like interview questions, it was very casual, conversational and very much the interviewer giving ME advice. he was very interested and invested in giving me all the info i needed and really felt like he was passing down his wisdom. i was hoping we would start talking about non-school things and shoot the breeze a little more but he ended the interview (naturally) when i ran out of questions. can't complain - had a pretty great experience.
my tips would be - RELAX! these people don't get paid for doing this and their lives won't be altered whether you get in or not. remember these people (vast majority of them) don't want you to suck and would much rather have a great conversation than a stuffy interview where the interviewee seems like a nervous wreck. have confidence and faith in yourself that the application you put together is your best foot forward. REALLY know your story/background and make sure it's aligned with CBS and its qualities.
oh, and i got really lucky. the interviewer submitted the feedback the same day we interviewed. big kudos to him.
now, i just wait.
good luck to everyone!
