Hi all,

A Quick Question: My supervisor has received a reference check mail from LBS. However, my second recommender has still not received a mail.

Should I communicate the same to LBS and request them to send an email to my 2nd recommender?

PS: It is possible that my 2nd recommender has mistakenly deleted the mail.

Thanks in advance

My second recommender hasn't got an email from them either.

I don't believe mine has either. I would think that if they were looking for confirmation from both recommenders and LBS had sent an e-mail which went unanswered, LBS would send a reminder e-mail to the recommender, or as a last resort, e-mail you to chivvy them...

I wouldn't worry about it. Only one of my recommenders was contacted by LBS and the other didn't receive anything. I got accepted anyway. Basically if LBS really needs to get in touch they'll find a way to remind/follow up or get in touch with you.

Hi guys, How are you planning to finance your cost of living in London? Are you aware of any loan you can take out for students ?

Hi guys, How are you planning to finance your cost of living in London? Are you aware of any loan you can take out for students ?

Prodigy Finance is a partner of LBS and when you get admitted you will receive loan application materials for them. If you qualify they claim to only fund tuition, and they have a pretty high interest rate.

I am looking to finance via a line of credit through a Canadian bank at a reasonable interest rate, and then incur exchange fees to get to British pounds for living costs. Fortunately many Canadian banks will loan directly in USD, so that means you can avoid exchange fees for tuition. In Canada, you can get a LOC of $80,000 to $100,000 CAD quite easily, and if you are married you can jointly qualify for up to $250,000 CAD in the right circumstances.

That said, the weak Canadian dollar is excruciating to think about right now. This more than offsets all the savings I made in school a few years ago when the CAD was at parity with the USD.

Anyone aware of any loans we could get in London?

I presume the LOC you're referring to is only available to Canadian ? I'm from Australia and the only loan that I am aware of is Prodigy finance which only covers tuition. I only have enough savings to cover one year of living expenses (GBP35k at the current FX). I can get a personal loan from here which would cost me 14% interest ! and max of AUD25,000. Not sure where else to look really to get a loan.

I also spoke to older Alumni and they used to be able to get HSBC loans to fund living expenses. However, I can't seem to find this anymore.....

I suffer the same plight as you with the exchange rate. It's really making it harder.

FROM LBS Admissions Blog: The last core week together in London for the EMBAG2017 students
Time flies! Our EMBA-Global Americas and Europe students who started the programme in May 2015 have just completed their last block week at London Business School. In March they are coming together once again as a class for their very last block week of core modules at Columbia Business School, before they start their elective […]

I'm in the same boat as you currency-wise being from NZ, and with enough savings to cover 1 year of living expenses if I'm very frugal. Just like Aus, NZ personal loans are pretty up there in interest. Apparently HSBC doesn't do that loan deal for LBS anymore :( I'm trying to see if I can refinance my house here to finance the MBA instead, but they're quite reluctant to lend me the money when they find out I will be quitting my job to do full-time study. Last resort to cover living expenses for me is to borrow from the "Daddy bank"...

So, I gave my interview yesterday. The alumni was a recent graduate .. jus 4 years. the interview itself was very relaxed and felt like a casual conversation.

Questions ranged from the usual why MBA, why LBS to how to handle difficult team members, how to make team successful, what I do for fun, how well travelled am I? Then came questions on my industry, the challenges its facing, what strategies should I formulate to improve operations. He seemed happy with my responses and said that its obvious that I know my industry well :) He kept saying excellent throughout a few answers. :)

Presentation time: My interviewer allowed me to select a topic.. I selected one on fall in Brent prices (I was familiar with it). He left me for 5 minutes. I presented for 5 mins. talked about the cause, the effects and the way to recover prices. However, i forgot to start the presentation with an overview of the topic and drove straight into the answer

Now am second guessing myself ... anyways fingers crossed for the results!!

Hope this helps applicants preparing for the interview. BEST OF LUCK!!

Yeah... soo much money !! Thanks for sharing your thought though. My daddy bank isn't really available so I'm gonna have to find other ways. Found this though https://lbs.financemyfuture.co.uk/ .. not sure what they mean by UK residents......This will be my last resort... otherwise, I'm going to have to work a part-time job when I'm there which is not recommended during the first year.

FROM LBS Current Students Blog: Let’s Talk about #Tattoo2016
Imagine 250 people representing 72 countries singing “Imagine” in unison and breaking a Guinness World Record while at it! That’s how Tattoo weekend kicked off. After having a world record in the bag, students across LBS programmes were busy rehearsing performances, decorating stalls and making sure there’s enough food to serve 1,000 people at this year’s sold out Tattoo event.

As I was the captain of the Middle East Club, I had to ensure that my classmates from the region and I represent our countries well. It was an uphill battle with many obstacles to overcome, particularly our tone deafness and acute lack of coordination. However, the night before the big event, we decided that we’d just have fun on stage and make sure we give a high-energy performance. Did we have fun? YES! Was it one of the most mortifying moments of our lives? Probably. But as we were told the first day of orientation, the MBA at LBS is the right place to try new things in a safe environment. Also, we received the stamp of approval from the Dean who wanted to know what we were eating to get that much energy!

After the performance, we moved to our (very popular) food stall. Tambourines in hand, we made sure that the people standing in the long queue would continue to be entertained. Everyone was having a great time watching our improvised act and watching the winning Korea Club performance on the screens spread out across campus.

Tattoo was an incredible way to release some stress after a long recruitment season. It was a way to celebrate the many cultures that LBS houses and to learn more about our classmates’ backgrounds. I, for one, was very proud to share some aspects of the Jordanian culture with my classmates and was very happy to see my friends decked out in their national costumes dancing to music from their countries. Events like this make me realize what a unique experience LBS is offering us and how privileged we are to be part of the most diverse and international b-school student community.
