+1 for C

A - Incorrect. The word 'Portable' means it would be easier to carry. Hence this doesn't strengthen

B - Incorrect. Patient's age is not mentioned in the argument. Hence, this is not relevant.

C - Correct. The use of defribillators would be maximum only when it can be accessed from anywhere. The deaths increased as it was not accessible earlier. This statement tells us that they dont require a stable power source and they can be accessed from anywhere using batteries.

D - Incorrect. The charge of defribillators is unnecessary.

E - Incorrect. Even if the portable defribillator didn't use the old tech. It can use the new tech to cure.

Hey Akash,

In option C, you mentioned that deaths were more because they were not accessible. I think not accessible means people could not get access to the device. I don't think no access to device will be attributed to the non - availability of electricity.

Consider kudos if that helped.

Until now Cardiac defibrillators were bulky machines accessible at home through insurance only to people with a known risk of tachycardia. Consequently, a number of people not identified at risk for tachycardia die due to lack of access to a defibrillator. Portable Defibrillators has released a small cheaper defibrillator that everyone can use. Consequently, deaths due to lack of access to the defibrillator will go down significantly in the near future.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the author’s claim?

A. It will be easier to carry a portable defibrillator than a regular defibrillator outdoors.

B. Most insurance companies are likely to provide the defibrillator from Portable Defibrillators at an affordable price to patients over 50, the age group where unexpected onset of tachycardia is most prevalent.

C. Unlike bulky defibrillators, defibrillators from Portable Defibrillators do not require a stable persistent power source and can be operated using batteries.

D. Bulky defibrillators were provided at free of charge to patients who are at risk for tachycardia.

E. The defibrillator from Portable Defibrillators uses the same mechanism to cure tachycardia as bulky defibrillator does.

Conclusion
deaths due to lack of access to the defibrillator will go down significantly in the near future

Imo -

D and E are out.
D strengthens the case of Bulky defibrillators
In E , we are not too bothered about the mechanism as long as we get the results.
B for me narrows down the the scope to patients over 50 and unexpected onset of tachycardia .
Unexpected is ok , but what about the Access for those with known risk
A is pretty solid , but again we know it is easy to carry the the new one outdoors probably a limiting factor , for now lets not leave this one out.
C mentions a huge advantage of new Defibrillators over the old ones. Running on batteries definitely improves the availability of the device

C Imo should be the answer.

I would have gone for E here.
Assumption is that portable ones are as good as bulky ones.
E supports that assumption.

A-Carry? What? Why? Out of scope for me.
C-why is battery power so important? Out of scope.!!
B-Over 50? Insurance? Nothing related to that in the assumption. It doesn't support anything.
D-So? Does nothing for the argument.

Awaiting the OA. Please let me know if I overlooked anything.

I think the ans should be b, because the conclusion is relevant to the group that has no access to the device. We can strengthen the conclusion by stating that this group will indeed get the new device

My 2 cents :

Until now Cardiac defibrillators were bulky machines accessible at home through insurance only to people with a known risk of tachycardia. Consequently, a number of people not identified at risk for tachycardia die due to lack of access to a defibrillator. Portable Defibrillators has released a small cheaper defibrillator that everyone can use. Consequently, deaths due to lack of access to the defibrillator will go down significantly in the near future.

so people not having tachycardia risk will not be getting access to defibrillators.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the author’s claim?

B. Most insurance companies are likely to provide the defibrillator from Portable Defibrillators at an affordable price to patients over 50, the age group where unexpected onset of tachycardia is most prevalent.

Here answer choice states that - unexpected onset of tachycardia is most prevalent in patients over 50 - so this group will not get access to defibrillators.

Hence possibility of deaths due to non-accessibility of defibrillators in this group.

However, as per answer choice - Most insurance companies are likely to provide the defibrillator from Portable Defibrillators at an affordable price - to this group of people.

This can help in reducing the number of deaths.

IMO - B - supports the author’s claim.

Let's analyse choice C :

C. Unlike bulky defibrillators, defibrillators from Portable Defibrillators do not require a stable persistent power source and can be operated using batteries.

Actual argument statement never links number of deaths to stability of power source.

Let's wait for OA.

Are we not considered about the people who die unexpectedly from the disease.

My bad... in spite of reading the stem twice I missed the red part that you have underlined, should be b. We are indeed dealing with people who are not among the known cases +1 kudos

Hii Harshgmat I am clear with your explanation..... It must be Option B :-)
Deaths are nowwhere linked with stability of power source. Hence Option C is out of picture.

Consequently, a number of people not identified at risk for tachycardia die due to lack of access to a defibrillator. Portable Defibrillators has released a small cheaper defibrillator that everyone can use. Consequently, deaths due to lack of access to the defibrillator will go down significantly in the near future.

We are told that only some can have defibrillators because insurance will only cover so many. We can infer that cost is because of this. So if more people have access, odds are more will live. But this would have to mean the unit is cheaper and/or that insurance is covering it.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the author’s claim?

A. It will be easier to carry a portable defibrillator than a regular defibrillator outdoors. -- Who cares? We are never told anything about location. We are told about its size, but not its ability to be moved

B. Most insurance companies are likely to provide the defibrillator from Portable Defibrillators at an affordable price to patients over 50, the age group where unexpected onset of tachycardia is most prevalent. -- This fits our pre-thinking. If it is cheaper and more are provided, less people will die.

C. Unlike bulky defibrillators, defibrillators from Portable Defibrillators do not require a stable persistent power source and can be operated using batteries. -- Who cares about power? We are never told about the need for it to be plugged in, so this is wrong.

D. Bulky defibrillators were provided at free of charge to patients who are at risk for tachycardia. -- OK, so the old defibrillators were given away to those who needed it for free. Does this strengthen our conclusion? Nope. How would a newer version save more lives? We would have to make too many assumptions beyond this to make it work.

E. The defibrillator from Portable Defibrillators uses the same mechanism to cure tachycardia as bulky defibrillator does. -- Who cares? What if they used the different mechanisms but were still equally effective? This cannot be our answer because it does not matter
