Hi,

If you see the two triangles AOE and EOB, both are congruent triangles.
    AO = OB = radius,
    OE is a common side, and
    angle OEA = angle OEB = 90 degrees

Thus, the length of the third sides must be equal, that is, AE = EB

It wasn't mentioned that OE & OF bisect the chords right? Should we always assume that the line drawn from the center bisects every chord?

Hi EgmatQuantExpert,

In your solution, you assumed that the line drawn from centre 'O' to the two chords (AB & CD) is perpendicular. However, no information is given in the question to to make that inference. Further, when you prove congruency of the two triangles AOe and EOB, same assumption is made i.e. angle OEA = angle OEB - 90 degrees.

Could you please help me understand how have you arrived at the conclusion that line 'O' from centre is a perpendicular (bisector) to the two chords?

Question has not been framed correctly.
It is assumed the line drawn from centre 'O' to the two chords (AB & CD) is perpendicular.
