Per ClearAdmit Round 2 getting invites today. Round 1 certainly seems to be a pointless exercise. Round 2 hearing earlier than Round 1.

IMO, that shouldn’t change your decision to apply in X round. If you’re a candidate with a certain profile, it won’t matter what round you applied in. There will be people better and worse than your application. Posted from my mobile device

Hey All, If the initial notification for R1 is 1/1/21 - and they've already admitted R1 candidates and are starting to extend interview invites to R2 candidates (Livewire), does that likely mean if you haven't heard back yet as a R1 candidate that you will be waitlisted/rejected at the decision/initial notification deadline? Basically, do you think that they have already moved past all the R1 candidates if they have already accepted R1 folks and are interviewing R2 folks? Or is it still possible that they have some strange method where they go back and forth while evaluating the applicant pool (R1 vs. R2) so there still is a shot of an interview as a R1 candidate. The final R1 invite reported last year was on Dec 17. In any case we can assume they will invite before Christmas holidays start. Posted from my mobile device

R2 applicant here..havent heard anything yet and stressed about it so I'm sure R1 applicants in my position are all kinds of a mess. I wish NYU would just release all decisions on a specific day like certain other schools do, this whole thing is killing me, NYU is my top choice as of now.

I think it's safe to assume a Ding/waitlist for people in R1. given that adcom most probably won't be interviweing people over the Christmas period, and the decision date is immediately post that, there simply isn't enough time to send interview invites and interview people.
