I'll share my experience from last year: I was accepted at a top-15 school with $$. After being admitted (but before paying the deposit), I found out that my wife was pregnant, and she would not be able to move to the US with me when classes were supposed to start, and consequently I would not be able to see the birth of my child if I did move to the US. Besides that, I hadn't planned in advance for the costs of supporting a kid during my MBA. Having explained all that to the admissions committee, they said they could not grant me a deferral. So I had to postpone my MBA plans for a year.
Wow, what a story!
Are you reapplying to the same school?
Is the reapplication procedure exactly the same for applicants who were previously rejected/accepted?
No, I'm not. It wasn't my top choice, and the fact that they could not accommodate my request under such unforeseen circumstances really made me question if it was the right school for me. So I took the risky road this year, and applied only to the 2 schools which I think are the best choices for me. I realize I might not get into neither of them, since they are highly ranked and incredibly selective, but that's ok too. After my son was born I started to look at things differently; if I don't go to business school, I'll just keep my job (which I really like), watch my son grow while living near my family, and try to accomplish my goals in some other way. Life will go on, no matter what happens - even though I hope it'll go on at Hanover, next year
Regarding the reapplication procedures, each school has its own policy. At Tuck, the application procedures were exactly the same, except for the letters of recommendations, which I only had to send one. And you don't need to send your scores again (Gmat and Toefl, in my case), and you have to write an extra essay stating how did you improve your candidacy from one year to the next - but that is pretty much standard at all schools.
