I would actually give the GMAT ONE more go. Stay focused and don't bomb any section. You obviously are passionate about this exam and have come a long way. I am confident you'll nail this fourth attempt. You also have time, so it's not really compromising other elements of your profile at the moment.

If you go that route, write us back with the results so we can assess your options. Right now, I would probably submit both the 730 and 700 scores even with the screw-ups, but taking the exam again might make that a moot point.

Good luck either way!

Hi, flapjack29,

Thank you for your post!

First, I would like to say you have much enthusiasm and set a great example of endurance and positive character. Coming to your GMAT, you did a great job backing a 730 in your GMAT, and even a 700 is good enough for some top US schools. However, I would say you are still young and seeing you are so compassionate about GMAT, you could definitely give it another try. Moreover, I would recommend adding more academic stats to your stellar GPA along with any accolades and certifications that would help upgrade your profile academically. Furthermore, having scored a 730 already, I don't think you need many tips in that aspect; however, I would like you to focus more on not bombing any section and keep your mind calm and cool during the exam.

Finally, I would say you must mention your motivation/driving force, your aspirations, and ultimately, why you think it's a good choice for you to go for an MBA now and that you have the relevant skills to succeed! Also, decide on post-MBA goals connecting your prior experience with, as you would need to convince the admission committee that your future goals are relevant and bring about Collinearity in your post-MBA goals. If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further help you with shortlisting MBA programs; feel free to book a free session with us at your convenience.

Interact with the current B school students and industry experts who'll help you prepare a roadmap for your R1 applications for top B schools

Cheers!

Hi Everyone,

So, I took the GMAT a few times so far and scored the following:

650 V38 Q41 IR 6 AWA 4

730 V44 Q47 IR 2 AWA 0

700 V39 Q47 IR 6 AWA Most likely a 5+, I cancelled this score but may reinstate based off your opinions.

So, on my 730 I had gotten a low IR and THEN accidentally submitted my essay thinking that the first page was for a draft. I ended up finding out I had covid after the test as my brain fell apart after focusing so hard on the composite sections. I know.... stupid of me. I have been devastated over it but am getting over it.

So, I buckled up and retook the test with the goal of improving my IR and AWA, I was on track to another 730 and I got hit with a super difficult CR section that crushed me and left me with a V39 :( At least I fixed my AWA and IR with a presentable composite.

With that said, should I keep my 700 score to show the schools that I am capable of doing well in all the sections while providing a decent score to show for it while also having the 730, or do I cancel?

I would like to add that I came from an original score of 430 and have grinded for about 2 years on this test. I am still so grateful to be talking about 700 scores after this long journey. I love the GMAT and have 4 attempts left. I may take it a few more times for fun and see how I do with the pressure off.

My GPA is a 3.9 cumulative from a decent university in the US. I am 23 and will have solid WE and spectacular references by the time I apply.

So thankful for everyone's time in evaluating my situation. I look forward to hearing your responses.

Sincerely,
FLC

With all due respect, none of the considerations you've made, other than your score of 730 and your GPA, have any effect on the admissions board's assessment of your application.
We have been working with American MBA candidates since 2006 and we are always in contact with the admissions departments of business schools and I can tell you that from now on it is more a question of how you will "defend" your essays.

Thanks Marcelo, so would you suggest I keep the 700 or leave it cancelled? And when you say “defend” my essays, are you referring to the GMAT essay or my application essays?

Posted from my mobile device

Yes, keep it.
I am referring to your application essays.
If you want send me a direct message and I would like to put my team to read your essays and give you some suggestions.
Since 2006 in 3 different countries we helped more than 3K students get approval in top 30 business schools and distributed more than 90M dollars in scholarships.
