When an adcom looks at a profile, they aren’t simply looking at applicants who are brilliant or exceptional. They are also looking at applicants that will be easily placed after graduation.
Your employability is a driving factor in getting accepted to a business school. while you won’t look “not well-researched” to the admissions committee members at Duke or Darden, they surely will wonder if accepting you is worth the opportunity cost of letting all the other applicants go.
I understand that a lot of applicants do not get placed after business school or choose to work on their own projects. However, an MBA is a professional course aimed at adding employability skills to a student’s resume.
Your employability is the role your past and MBA would play together in helping your get your short-term and long-term goal. But, if your short-term goal, Corporate Strategy, cannot be achieved due to the fact that your business school does not see recruiters from that role then the equation of employability falls apart.
However, I can suggest you to find out and stick to just one firm at Duke or Darden, that does recruit for your selected role when you write your goals story.
