Gotcha , thanks!

Also I was thinking to highlight The averages (5, 10 ,15,20 years) that help us understand the historical performance of the school. Especially that the YoY rankings very so much! and can belie the "true tier" of a school.

Thank you. I think this may be a year issue.

US news just like GMAC publish the rankings and books in 2021, in the spring of 2021 but they label them as 2022.

The 2021 numbers were released in 2020, meeting about 18 months ago. I think we’re actually behind on updating the rankings and the latest year has not been reflected. Something we need to do. I need to find somebody who knows tableau to be able to update them 😬

Hi bb,

Just noticed that McDonough's ranking for 2021 is 21 as per US News, however, the chart above (After filtering) shows 25.

Similarly, I think the following should also be corrected :

Anderson is to be 18.
Foster is to be 22.
Tepper is 16.

Didn't check others.

Top 50 US News MBA Rankings over 15 Years: 2008 - 2023

US News Rankings Fluctuate quite a bit over the years and the best way is to see the historic performance of schools over time.
Use the long-term rankings (5+ years to average out some of these spikes and oddities). Over the long term, MBA programs naturally try to optimize their strategy to improve their rank and standing. Many have specific goals to increase (e.g. acceptance rate or average GMAT). We will see things rebalance over the next few years as schools jockey for positions.

Please note that US News considers current year + 1 as the latest edition. Rankings come out in April for the following year. E.g. US News 2024 rankings come out in April 2023.

bb I don't know if it is my memory or what but I think there is something off about this chart. I remember seeing the old one in 2019, can you check if it is matching that one?

US News Rankings 2008 - 2017

We have found a great way to illustrate progression of schools through the US News rankings over the last 10 years. Welcome your suggestions for how to improve this presentation and make it easier to navigate. Some worthwhile comments:
  • Haas has not moved since 2008... really, not a mistake.
  • If there is no school name on a box, it means there are multiple schools sharing that spot
  • Click on a school to highlight it's path through the years
  • Use the filter to isolate any single school or exclude
  • Why are so many colors are similar? We tried to match the school's official colors here... tried.

Enjoy! Welcome feedback for improvement!

Very eye catching visuals! Need to try this software out. But interesting representation. But still think Columbia should be higher than Haas. HSW are in definite competition from Booth to make it HSWB.

Between 2014-2023, Wharton has the best average ranking. Chicago Booth is second. Stanford is third. HBS is fourth.

Sloan has touched as high as #3 once since 2014; Kellogg has touched as high as #3 twice since 2014. Sloan and Kellogg have consistently been in the #4 - #6 range since 2014.

Hi! can we please update this with the 2021 rankings =]

Thx! I think Vyshak was very kind to help us update this Taleau monster last time :please
Hoping he can be kind enough to help out with this year's rankings for the Top 20 and Top 50.

That would be awesome! This historical view is definitely the best way to tier the programs/find the group of schools that match your candidate profile.

The ranking clearly shows the tiers from HSW, then the M7, then the T10 (minus Tuck slipping to 12) and the T15 (UCLA and Cornell going neck and neck for that 15th spot) rankings are generally consistent in these groups year to year.

It totally shows how HBS slipping is an anomaly, just like how GSB was slipping the years before (4th place in 2018 and 2019) and then that 1 year NYU was ranked 20 lol.

Also shows how any of the other M7s besides HSW can make a reasonable claim at being the 4th best program. I am sure in 2022 Sloan will have a great shot at making top-3 or 4 again.
