Hi
J2S2019, this difference is about the usage of who as a
non-restrictive vs
restrictive pronoun.
Our book
EducationAisle Sentence Correction Nirvana discusses
non-restrictive and restrictive pronoun, their application and examples in significant detail. If you or someone is interested, PM me your email-id; I can mail the corresponding section.
Hi
EducationAisle,
Thank you very much for sharing with me some useful information regarding Essential & Non-essential modifier (relative clauses)
However, it will be very much helpful if you kindly address below queries in this context
Using the latest technology, the problem was identified - the VerbING modifier (Perticipial phrase) when used at the start of a sentence it modifies the subject of the sentence, but in this example as the doer of the verb is missing, it is an example of Dangling modifier.
Hope my inderstanding is correct in this case.
2> The problem was identified, using the latest technology. - But VerbING modifer when used after Comma, it generally modifes the preceding clause - posting a effect of any cause or action mentioned in the previous clause.
Here in this sentence, isnt the proble identife with the use of latest technology is what the sentence trying to portray? Then why it is not a correct sentence (i have came accross some study mats where this sentence is described as wrong) ? Is this merely because this two parts of the sentence is not sharing the same subject (though it is missing in the sentence).
Could you please help me understand the logic here?
Thanks
