Hi thehealthcareguy,

If you've put the proper effort into making sure that you took these CATs in as realistic a fashion as you've stated, then we have to work under the assumption that the scores are reasonably accurate. As to the goal of raising your score to the 700+ level, you have to put an emphasis on defining WHY you're getting questions wrong. While that type of review should be quite detailed, here are some basic questions to ask yourself when reviewing each of your CATs:

After reviewing each section of your CAT, how many questions did you get wrong....
1) Because of a silly/little mistake?
2) Because there was some math/verbal that you just could not remember how to do?
3) Because the question was too hard?
4) Because you were low on time and had to guess?

You've stated that you want to 'save' your last 2 GMAC CATs for the 'end' of your studies, but you haven't stated exactly when that will be.

1) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hey thehealthcareguy:

First off, thank you for studying with the Veritas Prep Practice Tests! And good question - there's definitely good reason that a lot of third-party tests score a little harder than the real thing (namely that if you know you're going to often be slightly off, it's much better to tell someone "you're almost there, work a little harder" and have them pleasantly surprised when their official score is higher than their practice test than it is to tell them "you're there!" and then have them underperform.) So in the past, we've done a little of the same...when we had to err on one side, the safe move is to err on the side of being too difficult.

That said, in the last few years we've done a lot of work with one of the (former) leading administrators of the actual GMAT so that we don't have to play guesswork anymore/ you can see his testimonial here: https://www.veritasprep.com/gmat/free-gmat-practice-test/ So we've tracked a ton of user data under the supervision of GMAC's original data science czar and based on that, if you're hovering around 680 the most likely official score that would track to is 680. Obviously there's an error margin in there so it's not a guarantee, but the tests are designed to be accurate predictors so you don't have to worry about trying to convert our scale to the official scale. Multiple tests around 680 suggest that you're currently scoring within 10-20 points of 680.

From my personal experience, I scored 680 on the Veritas CAT, but I got 650 on the real test. On gmat prep i scored 680-700. I would say that it is pretty accurate, and the deviations fall into the possible standard deviation.
