C) Both stocks have advantages and so do bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds not only can provide predictable income but also guarantee- Incorrect
1) Both stock....so do bonds- Ambiguous
2) Can not only x but also y is correct

D) Advantages are to be had from both stocks and bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee- Incorrect

Either stocks or bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also are guarantees of the return of investors' principal.

A) Either stocks or bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also are guarantees of

B) Both stocks and bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee

C) Both stocks have advantages and so do bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds not only can provide predictable income but also guarantee

D) Advantages are to be had from both stocks and bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee

E) Both stocks and bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also can guarantee

Meaning : Stocks and Bonds have advantages. Those are
1. stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time
2. Bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee the return of investors' principal.
General info about the benefits of stocks and bonds is presented

Error:
Parallelism : not only X....but also Y...
X and Y should be the parallel entities. In original choice error is
A) Either stocks or bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also are guarantees of
Note that use of Either ..or.. is correct and S-V pair also matches.
But the second part of the sentence (regarding bonds benefits) does'nt convey clear meaning because it is not parallel

B) Both stocks and bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee
:-Correct Choice
Both X and Y --> Correctly Used
Correct Use of Parallelism : bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee

C) Both stocks have advantages and so do bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds not only can provide predictable income but also guarantee
:- Both Stocks??? Original Sentence talks about Stocks and Bonds. The phrase Both Stocks have... distorts the intended meaning (as there are no 2 stocks listed in the original sentence)

D) Advantages are to be had from both stocks and bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee
:-Parallelism is correctly used in the second part but the start of the sentence is awkward. are to be had (Original sentence provides the general information presented in the simple present tense. Use of Had is altogether wrong)

E) Both stocks and bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also can guarantee
:- Parallelism Error - not only X but also Y...here X and Y are not parallel. Rest of the construction of the sentence is correct

A) Either stocks or bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also are guarantees of -- Eliminated. Meaning eror. Both bonds and stocks have distinct advantages. It isn't an either / or.

B) Both stocks and bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee -- Correct choice.

C) Both stocks have advantages and so do bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds not only can provide predictable income but also guarantee --- Eliminated. Unidiomatic. Both X and Y construction seems to be violated here.

D) Advantages are to be had from both stocks and bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee --- Eliminate. Awkward. Advantages are to be "had". Firstly the verb-tense. Secondly, advantages are to be have from "holding" perhaps? Overall this is awkward.

E) Both stocks and bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also can guarantee. --- Eliminate. Parallel Construction. Not only X but also Y structure is violated here with Not only X but also can Y.

It took me 1 minute and 8 seconds to choose (B).

For option (A), I noticed that it does not follow parallelism rule for "not only ... but also". Instead of using "are guarantees", it should use verb "guarantee" to be parallel with "provide".

This eliminates (A).

Now, for (E), can appears before "not only" but after "but also". It is also unaccetable.

For (C): "Both stocks have advantages and so do bonds" - At the very least, both should be deleted. This writing is unnecessarily convoluted.

For (D): Passive voice should better be avoided.

That leaves B as the best option.

Its (B) for me.

Either stocks or bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also are guarantees of the return of investors' principal.

A) Either stocks or bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also are guarantees of
--> latter part describes both stocks and bonds' advantages. hence either is wrong.

--> two stocks? wrong.

D) Advantages are to be had from both stocks and bonds: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also guarantee
--> passive form not preferred.

E) Both stocks and bonds have advantages: stocks can increase in value and give investors more income over time, while bonds can not only provide predictable income but also can guarantee
--> not only A but also B is wrong here. "can" should be elimited.
