A)The first is a belief that does not dispute the position taken by the argument; the second is that position. Wrong. The first part of this answer makes it a contender, but the second bold statement is not the position taken by the argument. The second bold part is a conclusion that supports the conclusion of the author.
B)The first is a belief that goes against the main conclusion of the argument; the second is a judgment that favors the main conclusion of the argument.Wrong, the author doesn't focus on arguing against his first bold statement. first part of the statement is wrong as it does not oppose the argument.
C)The first is an observation that is not disputed by the argument; the second is a conclusion that supports the main conclusion of the argument.Correct, the first bold statement is an observation that is not disputed, and the second is a conclusion that supports the author's conclusion.
D)The first is evidence used to support the position that the argument does not oppose; the second is a belief that supports the position that the argument seeks to establish. Wrong. The first statement does not support the position of the argument.
E)The first is the explanation for a belief that the author agrees with; the second is a prediction in favor of the main conclusion of the argument.Wrong. The second bold statement is not a prediction of the main conclusion. It is a supporting conclusion.

E) Second is a prediction in favor of the main conclusion of the argument------->This is not wrong.Yes it is a supporting conclusion, but it is also a prediction in favor.

Although the e-commerce industry in Inasia is not profitable as yet,as most companies in the sector suffer from challenges such as inefficient supply chains and insufficient funds , Nile Corporation, a world leader in the e-commerce sector has recently made its foray into the Inasian market. Its decision to enter the market is correct regardless of all the opposing theories. Most analysts believe that e-commerce will gain a sizeable market share in Inasia as more young people with higher disposable incomes will start buying products online over the next five years.

In the argument given, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?

A)The first is a belief that does not dispute the position taken by the argument; the second is that position
B)The first is a belief that goes against the main conclusion of the argument; the second is a judgment that favors the main conclusion of the argument.
C)The first is an observation that is not disputed by the argument; the second is a conclusion that supports the main conclusion of the argument.
D)The first is evidence used to support the position that the argument does not oppose; the second is a belief that supports the position that the argument seeks to establish.
E)The first is the explanation for a belief that the author agrees with; the second is a prediction in favor of the main conclusion of the argument.

Whats wrong with D, the second BF is definitely a belief as stated " Most analysts BELIEVE ...."

Yes you are right. The second part is a belief that supports the position.

The problem is with the first part. While it states an evidence,it is not used to support any position.

So "The first is evidence used to support the position that the argument does not oppose" is wrong
Hence D is wrong

Can anyone please explain how and why choice B isnt the right one.

The first is a belief that goes against the main conclusion of the argument

This part is clearly wrong.

Its an observation that is not disputed by the argument

Can you give your reasons for choosing B

Was stuck betwwen E and C
Went for C because of "explanation for a belief".
"e-commerce is not yet profitable as yet" is more a fact than a belief.
it does not appear from theassage that "e-commerce is not yet profitable as yet" is the opinion of someone or that of a group.

Many people (including me) are confused in between C and D. Why D can't be a right choice is because of the word "position", BF1 definitely supports the first sentence of the passage, but the first sentence is not a position, it is a "fact". There is a difference between position and a fact.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

I'm not the best in Critical Reasoning but I was able to crack this one.
I will cite the top three contenders to explain why C is right
Option D: The mention of the word "evidence". The first bold phase could be called an assumption, belief or an observation but its not an evidence.
Option E: The addition of the word "explanation". It could be called a belief but not an explanation of a belief.
Option C: The first phrase can be called an observation. To be honest it is more of an observation than belief. The second phrase is a conclusion of the premise "more young people with higher income...." which further supports the main conclusion "The decision to enter the market is correct...."

Kudos please if I helped I like getting those thumbs up.

D) The first is evidence used to support the position that the argument does not oppose; the second is a belief that supports the position that the argument seeks to establish.

E) The first is the explanation for a belief that the author agrees with; the second is a prediction in favor of the main conclusion of the argument.

Currently e-com is not profitable because most companies in the sector suffer from challenges such as inefficient supply chains and insufficient funds.
Nile is entering the market.
Most analysts believe that e-commerce will gain a sizeable market share in future because of younger people with more income.

Conclusion: Nile's decision is correct.

The first BF is not a belief. It is a fact explaining why e-com is not doing well currently. Hence, (A) and (B) are out.
The second can be called an intermediate conclusion (of the analysts). The main conclusion is then derived from this intermediate conclusion. Or the second BF can be better called a prediction or a belief.

C) The first is an observation that is not disputed by the argument; the second is a conclusion that supports the main conclusion of the argument.

The first BF is an observation and the argument doesn't dispute it. The argument talks about the future. It doesn't dispute the current position. The second could be considered a conclusion on which the main conclusion is based. But I would rather call it a prediction or a belief.

D) The first is evidence used to support the position that the argument does not oppose; the second is a belief that supports the position that the argument seeks to establish.

The first BF is evidence but it is not supporting any position. A position is an opinion. 'Currently e-com is not profitable' is not a position.
There is only one position given and that is of the author that Nile is right.
The second BF is a belief that supports the position that the argument seeks to establish.

E) The first is the explanation for a belief that the author agrees with; the second is a prediction in favor of the main conclusion of the argument.
The first BF is the explanation but not for a belief. It is the explanation for an observation, for a fact.

Frankly, I am a little torn between (C) and (D). I don't like either.

This explanation of yours "The first BF is not a belief. It is a fact explaining why e-com is not doing well currently. Hence, (A) and (B) are out" really reinforces my belief of accepting BF1 as a fact.

Thanks for the much needed explanation!!
