two main manufacturers SpeedStar and Lightning.
the crash rate of speed star airplanes has decreased in the last five years.
Thus the number will inevitably increase.
why author thinks that number will increase because crash rate of speed star airplanes has decreased
what if crash caused many fatalities then number will not increase
A is the answer

There are two main manufacturers of light plains in this regional market: SpeedStar and Lightning. Unlike the crash rate of lightning built airplanes, the crash rate of speed star airplanes has decreased in the last five years. Thus, although the number of passengers who refuse to take lightning built airplanes has not yet increased, it will inevitably increase.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument above..?

1. the rate of crashes of speedstar airplanes that involve fatalities and injuries has increased in the last five years.
2.lightning built airplanes make up the majority of the fleets of low-cost airlines, which charge travelers approx. 25 % less per trip than do airlines that use SpeedStar
3.the price that airline pay for the lightning built airplane has remained constant in the past five years
4. changes in airline consumer preference always lag behind subtle trends in airline safety rates
5. The Federal Aviation Association has begun an investigation into safety practices at SpeedStar's manufacturing plant

I believe the OA has many holes:-
the crash rate of SS plane has decreased while the crash rate of lightning remained same or increased:- what conclusion we make from this? Crash rate of SS is higher? lower ? or equal to Crash rate of lightening=>>> nothing because we dont know the actual crash rate of both manufacturer.
So just because the crash rate of SS decreased and Crash rate of lightening increased does not necessarily make passenger choose one over the other.

Since there can be scenario like this:-
Crash Rate of SS Before 50% after 30%
Crash Rate of lightening before 1% after 1.5%

Would request experts to explain.

there is a high chance that this question is a non-gmat question from unreliable source. Only beatthegmat and a chinese website have such question. On both sites, people complain about the quality of this question.

Argument : Trend of crash rate of S go down Vs Trend of crash rate of L stable or going up
CL: Passenger will leave L as considered less safe

Topic change from: crash rate and Safety. Argument states that crash rate = safety

To weaken the argument: what if crash rate opposite of safety:

ex: (out of 100 flight of 10 persons)

Argument:

1. S: 10% crash rate (10flight) but 50% casualties = 50 dead
L: 20% crash rate (20 flight) but 50% casualties = 100Dead
cl: S is safer as % crash rate reflect safety (% casualties equal)

weaken:
2. S: 10% crash rate (10flight) but 100% casualties = 100 dead
L ex1: 20% crash rate (20 flight) but 10% casualties = 40Dead
L ex2: 30% crash rate (30 flight) but 10% casualties = 90Dead
L ex3: 100% crash rate (100 flight) but 0,9% casualties = 90Dead
cl: if the % of casualties per crash of S is going up it is probably not as safe (the trend) as L despite a lower % crash rate. ->A

Hope that make sense

I believe this is either a poor question or the OA is incorrect. The answer IMO should be B.

In A, we do not know how much the fatality and injury rate has increased. For all we know it could have gone up by 0.00000001%. In B, we are given another reason why the passengers who take lightning built airplanes might not decrease. It is because they offer a product to people who cannot afford SpeedStar.
