Hi.. I have few questions to ask regarding HBS application. Can anyone help? I wanted to know since HBS says toefl is not required for people who have studied undergrad in English, can I skip toefl? Also, I am seeing a lot of discussions on "Why HBS?" essay. However, I don’t see any essay that talks particularly about why HBS. Am I missing something?

great questions!

on the **TOEFL** - yes you can skip it if your undergrad was taught in English but double check the exact wording on their site bc some schools want the *country* to be English speaking vs just the language of instruction. when in doubt just email the admissions office, they're pretty responsive!

on the **"why HBS" essay** - you're not missing anything lol HBS doesn't actually have a dedicated why HBS prompt! what you're seeing in those discussions is people debating whether to *sneak it in* to their open-ended essay. the HBS essay is famously just like "tell us what else we should know about you" so it's super open ended

just make sure you're checking **hbs.edu directly** for the current cycle since things do change year to year 👍

anything else you wanna know about the app?

You dont need to tell them why HBS. They already know that

That’s why they never ask this question in interview

Awesome.. thanks a lot for the detailed response. Yes, I knew they never ask the "why hbs" question, however, seeing the "sneak in" discussions made me doubt it. Regarding Toelf, as I am from India, I can’t skip it? They’ve not specifically mentioned anything about the country in the application instructions.

Hi, is there any way to get an application fee waiver for M7?

Yes, it is possible to obtain fee waiver from HBS and other top schools as well. Our students have been successful in obtaining multiple fee waivers.

For Harvard, applicants can submit a fee waiver request form after you start your application.
You will need to upload your CV and submit a short essay and information about your 2025 income.

Essay question:
Please provide an explanation (200 - 300 words) for your fee waiver request. You may wish to include information about your income, financial assets, educational debt, family obligations, and/or any extenuating circumstances that may warrant a fee waiver. Please be aware that in some circumstances, the Admissions Office may request additional documentation after you submit this form.

Here are Harvard's further instructions:

This fee waiver request must be submitted
two (2) weeks before the application round deadline in which you are applying to allow for processing time (see below for exact dates). Your full application does not need to be completed nor submitted by that time, though; just the request form linked above!
  • For Round 1 applicants applying by Wednesday, September 9, 2026, this fee waiver request form must be submitted by Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 12p Boston time.
  • For Round 2 applicants applying by Tuesday, January 5, 2027, this fee waiver request form must be submitted by Tuesday, December 22, 2026 at 12p Boston time.

You will be notified before the application deadline if your waiver is approved. In some cases, additional documentation may be requested later.

After submitting, we will email you to confirm if your waiver request has been approved.

If it is not approved, you can still apply by the deadline by paying the application fee.
