UNC-KF Full time vs Kellogg part time

Question

Hey guys,

I need some help deciding which school I should choose. I already have my deposit down for UNC-KF but recently I was offered part time at Kellogg by the dean. As a chicago resident, my primary choice is Kellogg but of course I wanted full time and not part time. I work in vaccine development and want to switch career so it makes sense to go full time at UNC but I am still interested in knowing if part time kellogg is worth the time and money. Any thoughts/suggestions are much appreciated.

i know it's possible (but i think very difficult) to switch from Kellogg PT to FT, but I'd try and find someone who did and figure out how feasible it is. Going under the assumption that it's a longshot, UNC is the easy call here

In light of your goal of career switching, I highly recommend going to go to full time program. So it is will be UNC.

What are your goals?

It is a longshot but its possible. The only reason I am considering part time at Kellogg is because my wife works in chicago and it would be convenient for both of us

thats the general consensus that to career switch its better to be full time. I was looking online and from what i can tell part timers at kellogg has access to everything full timers do. is that true? Even the career services are offered to part timers as long as tuition is not paid by the employer. My goals are to move to consulting and I come from science background. Not sure, if any employer would give me a chance or internship while pursuing part time at kellogg.

The PT program at Kellogg has lots of great access very similar to the FT program and even in some instances will take classes with the FT students. Also, in your final year in the program you can recruit with the 2nd year students, but you will not get the robust experience as the FT students and will have less time for recruiting and internships.

Thanks for the input everyone! Really appreciate your point of view. I went with Kellogg PT for few personal reasons. My wife has a steady job in Chicago and so do I. Kellogg PT will allow me to participate in both PT and FT activities so I shouldn't miss out a lot on FT activities.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but how should I approach UNC letting them know that I am withdrawing. Should I email a particular person or deny it on portal? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a specific relationship with someone at the school then send them a note or give them a call. If not, then follow the directions in your offer letter, it might be as simple as a click

While it may be as simple as a click, to me I would go ahead and just reach out to the person who admitted me to also thank them and explain why the change of plans just because you never know when people will turn up again in your life. No, it is not required- but it just seems like the nice thing to do to be sure the school knows this information so they can reach out to wait list etc and keep things rolling on their end.

For withdrawing, I always prefer to write a thank you mail to the admissions team (along with denying on the portal).
